quote weldore: aye..you should be done for wednesday !!!

thats made my day & probobly about right to weldore haha
the chap thats helping do my pump timing is away this weekend & i cant really do the pump timing until i have the dipstick leak sorted out but once these issures are sorted it should get moving pretty soon proboly aim for wednsday LOL
crawaling aorund under my t25 i have found one bit of rust that i'm gonna cut out & weld a new piece in & if i can borrow or buy one of those diddy compressors i'll coat the underside with that anti-stonechip paint before the bad weather can attack my t25 should keep me busy this weekend!
harryman: cheers man! i decided to just use the 1.7 bits for ease of the swap! although a you say the 1y intake is pretty meaty so i reckon a good amount of metal could be ground off the intake manifold to make it fit, i did'nt fancy messing about! if you have a bit more time i'd say it is worth tryin to get the 1y intake manifold in though!!!!

SHE'S A RUNNER & DRIVER ON THE 1.9 1Y FOLKS!!!! WOOP WOOP & BIG OLD THANKS TO MERDOCTOR (marcus)
i'll do a small video tomorrow morn & post it up & a few pics will appear in the evening! i have a right old busy day tomorrow pulled from piller to post but i dont give a fricken fly "frell" as my ex-german army crewcab is now running like a champ on its 1.9 1y
i needed mercdoctors help to bleed the diesel fuel system as i was clueless on that & also my diesel pump timing was out which merdocotor also sorted!

blummin recommended folks! top chap!
so in a sence its the end of my conversion thread but...............................................
as i say i'll get a vid up in the morning & pics of the bits i needed to change & some overall pics of the motor in its new home!
also thanks to peteabbott, weldore, aidan & anyone else thats gave me damn good pointers on this thread & of course club 80-90 for info in the wiki
the motor is now leak & smoke free, cruises well on the motorway & is damn quiet for a diesel! this is the 3rd diesel motor i've owned & this is very quiet1 my mother drives an rover 2.0 turbo diesel 112bhp & it go's like stink but my 1.9 1y is quieter more than likely due to a bit or MERCDOCTOR-Majic!!!!
So do i think the conversion is worth the effort????? well i drove for 3.5 hours straight today in & around birmingham & my initial thought is yep DEFO! even if you have a stock non-turbo 1.6 or 1.7 diesel the 1.91y is an ideal replacement, for me & my needs it suits me fine, i drive on the motorway at 60mph & no more unless some silly old bat or old fart is doing 45mph in the inside lane!!!

Then i may push the boat out to 65-70mph MAX
around town it has plenty of torque to blat along in modern traffic & pulls alot more than the 1.6/7diesel!!!
if your after somat that pi$$'s the a*** of more modern machinery just put a scooby in ya bus & keep buying fuel & put more money into the goverment purse!
i have 235/60/16 wheels on the back of my crewcab so it makes the gearing better on the motorway/duel carridgway, makse accelleration a bit slow but i dont give a toss about knobs that think they are drag racing at every set of town traffic lights or islands, you run in the back of me you pay!
please if you have any questions on what i've been up to on my project fire away!!!! as i say pics tomorrow & vids

i know i know, i'll take the shame weldore :O) it should have been last wedsday but i realised i did'nt get the steel gasket under the oil filter housing on straight so when marcus & i got the diesel bled through last week & got the motor running it was pissing oil out!
it took me until satarday to figure out where the oil was coming from :O\ so after aa few silly niggles i've finally got to a drivable state!!! thank to you know who's help :OP
i gotta drain some coolent out & refill with the correct amount of antifreeze & bleed the system again so its air free & check double check a few bits n bobs but i think she'll be a good runner will the 1y!

i had teething problems afterward which were down to pipework and stuff..but the engine will soon let you know if theres a problem by having a wee everywhere you go of some sort of fluid

Well done mate, glad to here it's up and running like a good one.
This thread has been perfect and I will be using it for reference to help with the install of mine (which is still just sitting there in my garage

)

i see you have an ex-german army t25, mine is also, mines a crewcab-seriously the differance is worlds apart! mine i've realised today that mine is now in forth most of the time rather than using the gearbox all the time like you have to with the 1.6 & 1.7
maybe some of that is due to me using big rear wheels/tyres 235/60/16 on the back it cetainly drops the engine revs & takes stress off the engine!
which in all honesty is what fooks up the old 1.6/7 diesels they are over revved by bad gear ratios!
i' meant to be going to ireland in mine satarday night/sunday morn but not booked anything yet!

Although I run on standard wheels and tyres, my 1Y won't be going in with the original box... I've got a DK box sitting in the garage waiting too.

I really should make a start on this stuff!

hi mate
i am doing this conversion at the mo what clutch did you use a 1y or 1.6d clutch

how do, i used a LUK clutch fromgsf which covers the t25/t3 diesel range from the 1.6d,1.7d & 1.6TD i actually asked for the clutch for the 1.6td as most clutch setups for turbocharged petrol or diesel motors either have a tougher material on the cluth friction plate or a stronger pressure plate to cope with the extra torque of a turbo motor, i know mine is only a 1.9d 1y but if a stronger clutch is there to use & hopefully last longer is worth the differance of a fiver or whater the cost is!
i used my t25 flywheel, the 1.6td clutch kit with new release bearing too!
from my old 1.7d engine i used the alternator bracket & allternato so i dd'nt have to do any wiring for the 1y alternator

& swapped the 1y crank pulley for the 1.7d crank pulley-in simple terms all the ancilleries on the 1y i took off & put aside
then fitted all the ancilleries from my 1.7 including the sump, intake & exhaust manifold-although i may fit the 1y intake manifold in the future as i may turbocharge it but unsure at the moment-need to research it a bit!
basicly i think the 1y is good as it has almost the same torque as the 1.6td but no turbo to worry about! its a nice simple conversion
the only issue i have is that the 1.6 & 1.7 diesel engines in t25/t3's had a "pooh" gearbox-its ok if you dont mind toddling along at around 55/60mph but when i have a bit of money to put my crewcabs way i may fit a gearbox from a petrol to get a higher cruising speed on the motorway 70mph on a 1y would be spot on!
around town you just want the econamy which is getting harder nomatter waht ya do with the fuel prices-govermant fckers
hope this helps any questions dont hesitatae.....!!!

Hi everyone,
Have a quick question about the injector pump wiring.
The only wire I have connected is to the point that clicks when you touch it on and off which I believe from reading a previous post is the correct one. The engine starts and runs fine but the problem is that it won't stop!! Turn the key and it just keeps on running.
Help!!
Any ideas people?
Cheers,
Tom

Thats a bit odd mate. With your ignition switch in the off position does the fuel solenoid still click when you touch the wire onto it ? I think it must do OR the solenoid is not closing...........wrong wire or faulty solenoid OR I suppose it could be a faulty ignition switch.
