Firstly do your lifters slide right down the bore and touch the cam? secondly when you pop the rocker bar on you often need to use a screwdriver under the pushrods to lever them a few mm up at the inner end so they drop into the centre of the lifter (very gently don't damage the bore). Then once centred push the rocker down onto the other end to keep the rod in place. gently continue until you have all 4 in position and gradually tighten the two retaining nuts down on the bar. This can be a delicate job. Hopefully you will then have something more normal looking. The screws if too far out can allow the rod to slip out of the centre of the lifter so beware. If going back to the beginning your lifters don't slide right down to the cam therein lies the problem. It is not unusual to get one rod in only for another to fall out of the cup in the tappett.

The rocker magnifies the movement so a small difference on the lifter side makes a bigger difference on the valve side, so you are looking for perhaps 3 or 4 mm lifter side so lifters upside down would explain it ( but can't believe you would have done that)
Anotyer explanation as said is lifters are getting stuck, due to a burr worn by old incorrect lifters perhaps

Solid lifter rod: Aluminum with steel tips (271mm long) Solid lifter pushrod: 12mm dia
hydraulic pushrod, 10mm thick, Hydraulic rod 1-piece steel (262mm long)

Yes this is the problem, the ratwell figures I quoted here are for the type 4

At least Andy supplied you the right pushrods.
I used the ratwell guide to show you how lifters work and to show you how to adjust them...which have remained unchanged.

Are the rockers correct? Something about them doesnt look right? I dont do aircold so I wouldnt know if there could be a difference.
Part number stamped on them might help.

Are the "new" push-rods the same length as the bodged welded ones? Maybe someone has fitted a high-lift cam and then cut & shut the original push-rods to suit the cam.

Or fitted ratio rockers...

Maybe right there, wrong pushrods and lifters maybe wrong valve gear also.

It was the dot of weld (for the oil drilling) that got me thinking....but aren't they all 1 : 1.13 or thereabouts?
The rocker posts might be a different height though.

Turns out the rods werent seated correctly so now are all located with the aid of screwdriver. Just got to get it to start, going to change out plugs again or clean them and see if that is also the problem. Oh and air out the heads by removing the plugs as all the cranking could have flooded it i guess.

Its at 6 bar on cyl 1. So not really. The rest are fine.

I have been told it could be a burnt valve. Theres no water seepage. I just have no time to take it off to have a look. I have got it up for sale, but i dont really know what else to do. I have tried a local garage but not sure they can do it for another 2 months. I need the funds really asap, but we will see.

just had a bit of a brainwave or an idea today, i did mess with the gear linkage / coupler to get the gears working, that might have slipped meaning i am trying to pull away in third maybe? worth a look.
