OKAY !

As said from the very beginning I'm not a mechanic, so I take it to a ROLLING ROAD and they do what ? are they the mechanics ? Im guessing no ! so what do they do ? and what do I do with the results apart from look at them ?

what does a rolling road cost ? North London ?

as I said a rolling road simulates driving your vehicle under load, its on rollers so its actually driving on a dyno, so its going 70 mph but standing still so to speak. this equipment measures wheel bhp and rolling torque, these measurements allow the operator to adjust and fine tune mixture and timing in a real world environment allowing the best set up of your vehicle, as once adjusted he can try another power run. they will check your dizzy settings, check advance etc, if you have a problem this will be your best chance of getting a solution, your looking about 80 quid a hour ish...

so yes they are mechanics

as said I wouldn't take it to just any rolling road place, id be heading for somewhere in the know.

I used to use raceshack for my old ac bus (went thru rebuilt solex, drilled jets solex to dellortos) wheel bhp went from 28 to 36 to 58 so you can see the progression, this fine tuning cant be done statically to the same degree of accuracy.

if your willing to travel I would try interpro. just off the m4 j 19 iirc.

I see your in London (big place I know) Power engineering, Uxbridge middx have a good rep with air cooled know their way round em, which helps no end. they set them up using a rolling road, carbs and timing and you'll find out how many horses are still roaming around the engine, ring for a price, b code twin carb was £90 to 150

I took my CU engined van to Power Engineering at Uxbridge, it was £150 for abot 3 hours worth of rolling road, they were very helpful, the van run a lot better, not more power in my case, but using less fuel. Working on £6 + per gallon i am sure it will be paid back soon.

spoke to Power Engineering this morning and the guy gave me some good advice, he said get the carbs refurbed and the tappets adjusted before you come as the last 4 air-cooled he'd done all needed the carbs rebuilt ! so there you go....

Or fit some ict carbs from eurocarb about 350 all in and easy to tune and fit.

Following on from my post a few pages back.......where I had (have) a similar problem...

I got a set of Weber 34ICT carbs from VW Heritage for £369. I then got a local guy to do my timing, install carbs and tune (this happened today) and hey presto I gained almost 20mph on my top end speed.

I only took it out for a 20 minute drive after picking it up, but it has made quite a difference. I shall be putting it through its paces overe the next few days.

ICTs really are quite simple to fit if you can read instructions and have basic technical skills. There is a bloke called Punnet on the JK forums who used to write an excellent guide about how to fit, tune and maintain these little carbs.
