well when i took the tank out i found it a bit the worse for wear, it came out dead easy as it must have been out recently as the 2 front bolts were new and not rusted.more than i can say for the tank.
breather pipe is cracked as well

its delaminating


i will post the picks tomoz(chucking it down now)of the easy hole made


so another new tank from mr B, and will renew the breather hoses etc as normal

Seriously, my wife has agreed we need to get more camping done. We are hoping to do lots of mid week and weekend expeditions next year and the Lakes and Dales are our favourite places. Maybe meet up sometime then we can meet the 'mysterious' Dr B. But there's no way I'm even gonna try to ride a mountain bike

well had a most enjoyable day ,finaly getting to put the bones of it back and start to rebuild it.
got to play making add ons for the cut of outriggers, nicely tapered to match when fitted 14 & 16g so had to cut with the disc as hand snips are only good to 18g , well thats as thick as i can cut, also had to remomber to remove all the choddys too

the little sliver bit is added here to the front edge of the rear outrigger. ive made it a touch too big so it can be ground back to fit snugly against the suspension mounting

plate added to front of front outrigger, this needs to be especially neat inside as for one it needs to allow the jp to locate and also you cant really get a grinder in there so make it neat

this is the inner sill trial fitted, it sits nice in the original reccesses, note the weld from the picky above,the rear slope of the jp welds to this

i shall run a bead up there then this is one i made earlier and fit this and likewise weld the sloping part to it and the lips fit to the sill as will become clearer i hope a bit later

this is the inside showing the sill fixings, they are spotwelds from vw, i will puddle weld them 8mm holes. i may also add a run along the base of the B post , as i doubt this will have to come off again

this is the rear devoid of strengthening plates and such

i have added a small piece to this as the old bit was rotten its in 16g, its got a curve in two planes so nice to do and it makes it much stronger

crisply welded up, needs the grinder running over it and it will be nice enough, i have deliberately left the left hand bit open

this shows roughly how the suspension mount fits, in not in its correct position, i will cut 2 x 3/4 holes where the black circles are and then i can puddle weld through to the top of the sus'p mounting, i will do a couple of other mods which are easier in picks then my scribble

at the rear here the sill is also spotted but i didnt want to puddle up trough the sill so i have drilled right through the floor and this thicker support plate and then wound the mig up and welded the lot through

one of the joys of factory panals, ...the nut welded to the sill alligns perfectly

i will run the disc over these welds and then when i make the floor/sill closure plates these will fit nicely .
so a very enjoyable time was had..
