So wbx6 repaired for a cheap price for once! Now to decide to sell or hold on to it???

What went wrong was all of the valve ends had started "mushrooming" where the rocker arm pushes on them. (Or when hydraulic lifter has bled out overnight so that it hits it to be precise). Two had then disintegrated, cotter pins etc all found broken in tappet cover. This meant valve was loose and thus motor obviously wouldn't run. Seems I stopped before any more damage. Removed the head, put in 2nd hand 2.1 original valves, sleeves and back together essentially. During the "professional" rebuild 30 000kms ago, apparantly fitted with brand new "proper" valves! One wonders actually. Howcome my 2.1 ran for 300 000kms and no valve ever had a problem. Methinks someone is conning someone. Anyway, willing to bet these new 2nd hand valves end up outlasting the rest of the Syncro!

Only preload adjusters with 0.5 of a turn from just touching at TDC on each cyl too.. wbx's eat adjusting screws and the occasional valve stem tip.. but not in 30k...

I agree, we are trying to see if something went wrong with the hydro lifters perhaps, not pumping up correctly and allowing too much "slap" all the time. The make is "something-bilstein", so i would think reasonable quality. Anyway redoing both heads and replacing all valves.
