Lead is from the solder connection, recommendation from Mike, flux is from Frosts although i am struggling with it a bit.

Mike uses Fryolux, but reckons the Frosts stuff id OK, so might just be me!!

Ouch, was it a pre-booked fixed time ticket?

I use the trains a lot for work and have always notice I never miss them but 10 minutes, its always less than 90 secs, just enough so you can see it leaving the platform, or get there as they lock the doors

You must have stayed for two many of Paul's bacon/sausage sarnies - i must say they were pretty good

O h I had double breakfast , fidget did too, oh yep it nwas the platform furthest away and when i got there there were 3 trains so i asks which was mine and he said the one that was jusssssssssssssssssssssst moving off and i could just about touch the b*****r and yes use once or forfeit the cheapo ticket

OK, time to attack the other lower windscreen corner.

This is the before,



Cut out and cleaned up the rust and pitted area and split the seams around the area so I can run some Hydrate 80 in whilst I'm at it. Note on the first pic you can see the rust trail where water has run in between the seam.



Quite a complex shape to make so started with a cardboard template to get the rough size and then gradually trimmed and bent/planished into shape. Looked like this when finished



and fitted into position.


Then made the front piece.


Both sitting with weld thru primer on drying at the mo, as the rear plate is much bigger I will probably weld this in first, then the front plate, then spot weld rather than spot before fitting.

Also had a bit of pinholing and rust on the A pillar just above this,


Too small an area to patch really so rather than just cover it up I cleaned it all back then put some braze in to fill the holes and create some fresh metal which I can then use some stopper on prior to paint.


Once this lot is sorted then we will be onto the big job which is to drop in a new outer skin on the front roof section, so here is the result of my trip to Kev's (Letshaveabus) on Sunday



Strange how this was a red one as well, same as mm's for KevtheRev's!!

But that is for another day

Nice work, like the brazing and lead too! Gotta get yourself a blaster, they're a great job.
Could you show us some of yer tools? you mentioned shrinker and stretcher....?

I've got a 20gal pot blaster that I use when stripping complete seams or large areas like the chassis on the 'Bay but it is a bit of a faff for this little stuff ( I also have a small and large cabinet that I use for removable parts, just about to set up the large one with soda so i can do engines in it )

I am thinking about just getting one of the small spot blasters/guns for this sort of thing - thoughts on if they are any good?

Think they are about a ton each, although I picked up the pair for £120 I think, old stock or something Great for making curves in these small parts, although I also use the hammers and a few old school techniques from the Dave Gardiner metal working video for larger pieces.

Could do with a bead roller really for putting swages in panels to stiffen them/make them like original - that might be my next purchase

Hi, Thanks for the posts, I am preparing to do the same job/jobs on my 90 Kameo which looks to be in the same state.should I start a thread? or just follow yours, I will be taking pictures anyway for my records. do you recommend heritage over just K? for panels? Keep up the good work as I will be following closely. Gil

some jk panals are ok , lower outer sill for fridge side for instance, and some pattern pannals are carp wherever you get them from ,original were able followed by good body cuts =to making your own,folowed by pattern
oh and never mind picks for YOUR frecords, what about our viewing, this place is like a comic book and we constantly need new adventures

I think the rainy weather hasn't helped things recently.... haven't got any van work done this weekend either over here...

Well, I can't believe how long it is since I did any work on Gunther, surprised I haven't been reported for neglect or something

Still, been really busy with work so that at least pays some bills, and means I have to do resto stuff to maintain my sanity

Been doing lots of sorting out in the workshop and finally cleared enough space to start unpicking the replacement roof from the body cuts I took last summer. Started unpicking the front roof/windscreen surround. Gonna have to go off and look at Mike's thread on Kevtherevagon to see how much he took off cause its a right pain to strip it all. Am working on the principal of removing everything to leave me just with the outer skin (including gutters) down the a post about an 1" to where the brazed joint is.

After cutting/unpicking the spot welds on the A pillar and frame top rail it look a bit like this.



Sorry for the crap photo, will try and get a better on tomorrow!

Looks like i will have a bit of remedial work to do as well as the roof cut isn't quite as good as it first looked
