Stamping the letters or welding the original plate to the new cross-member, or even cutting and welding the old numbers into the new cross-member, seems in my opinion as if Im trying to pass the van off/or trying to hide something ( this is purely me looking at it from a prospective buyers point of view ).

Leaving the new one as is and keeping the old one with un-molested numbers just seems easier to explain than why the van look like the chassis number has been tampered with.

I think Im being over obsessive as usual

I see where your at, if you let it in it would be flash and neat, but "could" look ndodgy in some circumstances I would go for stamping the numbers on, (something very solid under the metal)then a good whack with the lump hammer on a punch would be good and keep the original for the reasons you state, , Its all doc'd on here for what its worth

I think this is you best option and you can still cut out the old one so as to prove authenticity to any future buyer.

We used to have to stamp our own VIN numbers onto the floorpans of various Fiord's when replacing a bodyshell as they never came with any ID on them so it wont be the first time this method's been used.

Well dispite having friday and monday off this is as much as I could muster. Got called in to work on friday and have come down with man flu

crossmember welded in place





Inner part of b-post pretty much finished, bit more trimming to tidy up then welded in



Dont seem like I got much done , but theres was a bit more fettling of the inner sill now the crossmember is in place

now going to lie in bed and try to recover

Looking good, dont forget to scallop a half circle out of the inner sill where the jack goes in,

This is proper man flu Ill have you know Ive got a runny nose and everything

Nothing lines up at the moment , the b-post outer repair panel doesnt line up with the jacking point on the sill. Which is a bit c**p as there made by the same company.
I cant scallop the sill , waiting for someone to let me know the diameter of the arm on the origional jack ay mike

Ok measured the hinklevagon! front scallop will hug a 30mm socket, the actual orifice at the rear =35mm.

Dunno if you still have it but keep the old crossmember with the original number in it to prove why it now looks like it does now!

although I may not recover enough to leave my bed again , my throats hurting now

Ive spent most of the day trying not to pi$$ myself if Im honest, There I am hand crafting a b-post re-pair section(whilst dying of man flu) using nothing more than a vice and a hammer and my neighbour is still trying to build a shed . He started at 12 o-clock still hadnt finished it at 8.

gotta love neighbours, I did contemplate going to help but the chav neighbours are having a party so I was pre-occupied making sure nothing went missing

thats the plan, It was 50/50 as to what to do . Thought something was better than nothing.
