If you are changing your starter (agree with the direct +12V feed by the way to eliminate any key ignition issues) then you should change the earthing??? bush too. Probably not an earthing bush. Locating bush?

Cheers All, oilyte bush was changed when the gearbox was taken out about 4 years ago but won’t hurt to replace again.

SHE LIVES!!!!!! Timing was 180 degrees out - adjusted and she started on the button!! Fitted new to me starter motor (thanks MShaw1980) and what a huge difference this made - fuel delivery was almost instant.
Took for a spin and all i can say is Wow! Pulls like a train, new exhaust sounds fantastic (it's made a big difference to the bus being able to breathe) - going to double check timing next week and hopefully my pal maybe able to bring a gas analyser home so i can set that up as well. I know a good chap who runs a rolling road at the back of Brands Hatch so may get it fine tuned by him if needs be:

Glad you are back up and running with such a smart bus, how is the exhaust on a motorway run, does it drone, or is it ok?. Thinking of changing ours but one of our dogs is a bit spooky noise wise.

Looking very smart Justin!!!
It's such a good feeling when it starts for the first time after surgery.

Many Thanks chaps, it’s a huge relief just to know that she’s running ok and I’d like to express a huge thanks to everyone on here for their help and assistance (especially yourself (Paul) Itchyfeet).
The exhaust is not noisy at all, it has a nice rasp upon full throttle but tickover is nice and quiet. I can honestly say I can’t believe how good the engine sounds - the Weber carb gets a lot of bad press, but treated right and looked after correctly, i reckon its a great addition to the DG and would be good to get a set of figures against a well running Brosol/Pierburg carb.

Took the cap off the expansion tank this morning and no ‘whooshing’ sound whatsoever so all good there.
Going to re-adjust the tappets as they were just slightly noisier than normal but this maybe where they just need to settle in.

1st October Paul - my mate took the bus out yesterday for its maiden voyage. Can’t wait to get back behind the wheel and back on the motorbike
Next job is an MOT and to get her run in as soon as possible.

Powder coated front bumper with new end caps fitted - take no notice of the staining under the van - that was after putting the new coolant in yesterday
