I’ve got the metal tube but not the upper plastic part.

filter threaded tube not filler tube

filler is one part, if its broken into two it will leak, you can fix the two parts with some rubber pipe and clips.

Quiz. Apply 20Nm to three bolts without allowing the water pump pulley to turn?

A long bolt locks it, then tighten the other two, remove long bolt and tighten the last as best you can.

easier with belt on.

you can use ring spanners an angles which don't cause the bolt to rotate.

pic shows undoing bolts but same principle

Thanks Paul, worked a treat. I put a nut on the back which prevented it from turning on the housing for the 3rd one.

Mocking up as best I can, this late cooling system is a mystery to me, I’ll
have to read up a bit more.

The Woodruff key seems a bit short for all these items and I’ve forgotten which order they go in, anyway. Doh!

...although I do have the club 80-90 ;) exhaust system too, just needs the downpipe. Managed to grind the knuckles off it and give it a tidy up. Anyway...Summary; early system would need a rear silencer £100, late needs downpipe £25. Not sure about the late silencers that came with it, sound full of rust. Few more bhp out of late exhaust system maybe, is that why vw changed it?
