@kevtherev the lifters are all 8 out of a wbx so it cant be them. if the pushrods are correct, then it cant be them. the rockers havent been altered, and i didnt take the valve springs off so its not them. Whats left??! If i turned it by the key could it damage it? Even if i tested it by hand first?

Don't turn the key yet
You have telescopic tubes so pull one and get a pic of the pushrod and tappet
I will post a pic later of mine from my spare engine

so they are not new lifters then?
don't turn it yet.
looks to me like the rods are not seated in the lifter or the cups in the rocker

itchyfeet wrote:Just measured my DG pushrods they are 272 ish mm 9mm dia and hollow
hydraulic tappet is 48mm body but the plunger is recessed
if the circlip was missing from the tappet it would add about 3.5mm but may not old pressure

"Solid: Aluminum with steel tips (271mm long) - Hydraulic: 1-piece steel (262mm long)" might have to be getting some refunds.
Don't come on here implying I've told you wrong, or sold you the wrong parts, and wasted your time. Check your facts first. The pushrods are right. Several other respected members have confirmed they are right. You've even had VWHeritage tell you they are right. If you still can't fix it take it to someone who knows what they are doing. In light of the tone, and that you've fitted the parts, there will be no refund on this occasion.

Right I will get dims of a follower tomorrow for you.
Assuming the lifters are correct. Can they be fitted upside down? I can't see how else the push-rod can be holding the rocker arms that high?

If you read it correctly you will see I did not slag anyone off. I state the fact that both members said they were out of a 1.9 wbx. Not at any time implying you were a liar, wrong, or any other detrimental remark. The waste of time part is relating to the frustration that if the pushrods are wrong I have wasted my time. So don't get the hump and give me grief until I have actually said something out of order. Which Is something that I don't do do. I hope that clears it up.
The other member who sold me them didn't even batter an eyelid about a refund and I sent him an email identical to the one I sent you. That's the sort of person I will deal with again.

In your pm you state the pushrods are the wrong length - they're not. You then state they are for solid lifters - they're not. You are telling me I am wrong, and so is the other guy - we're not.
You rely on information on Ratwell, which is about Aircooled (and particularly type4) engines, not WBX, then quote that at me as fact. How are you not, then, implying I am wrong? And by inference, it was this that you were expressing as having wasted your time.
BTW The parts are right after all, why do you want to return them? Surely you will need them when you figure out where you've gone wrong?

Well this is going splendidly. I do apologise for my wrong doing. If you read the thread you will understand why I may have crossed wires about the pushrods. you may be some expert but don't turn your nose up at the people who aren't as clever as you, so i made a mistake, big deal. I was actually recommended ratwell as a suitable source of information from people on here so dont go digging at me for getting it wrong, your outburst is pretty childish when you could have PM'd me instead. Im not taking part in this silly rant any longer, this thread is supposed to be constructive not destructive. And the other seller has fully refunded me even though he didn't have to, without even the slightest fuss. I will be returning the payment to him as i was wrong.
