Do you mean it takes longer to charge a warm battery than a cold one please :-?

Does it matter that a battery in the engine compartment takes longer to charge when it rarely needs much charging anyway please :-?

If my sons were as belligerent as this when 'learning' at their school, I'd want their teacher to put them in their place. Just saying......

The thing about learning is that you expand upon a theory rather than take an answer before immediately posing another as if to catch people out. My father claims I used to behave like that as a youngster (I'm not convinced about his sincerity or senility though), and apparently I came across as a quote 'little "pooh"' unquote....


It strikes me that you know your onions and you must have discovered the extent of the forum decorum on here by now, yet still.....

Well my poor man's Sterling arrangement has been fitted and operating for a few days now and I am very pleased with the results. At this point in time I have not had the opportunity to find out if my leisure battery is holding more Amp hours, but I reckon with the "smart charging" it will be.

Whoever it was who said that having the 2 batteries on separate charging circuits is better than having them linked in parallel via a relay, I agree :ok

ive just measured my leisure battery and with no load and engine running i'm getting 13.35v with 13.7v at the main battery , I've got a new fan belt and 14.5v alternator pack to fit tomorrow i'll see if it makes any difference .

Drove home tonight and had 13.8 ish with headlights on, turn them off driving makes little difference
turn them off when idle I get 14.0
seems to me an idle reading with very low load is not really a good test, need to have a load like headlights or ignition when driving which is much more than idle.

Don't forget to do a Volt test at the Alternator before putting the lid etc back on ;) (It takes me 5+ minutes to get at my engine bay what with bedding, fitted sheet, umbrella, kite, camping seats, draws, sound insulation (read = bit of carpet!) etc :roll: )

well after fitting I have between 14 and 14.08 at the alternator and 13.55 at the starter battery , I think I might replace the wire from the alternator to the starter motor
