Indeed, I have subscribed to many of your threads - and they make very good reading.

Loving your work. Always very inspiring... sometimes quite daunting.
Thankfully this van looks a lot more poorly than mine.
The hardest bit is where to start. Once I get past the indecision, I am sure progress will be steady.

what you do is start a thread of yours and post up detail picks of the areas that you have "issues" with and we go from there

Well,spotted the bits up and given them a coat prior to sealant etc


and the arch side

all good to panel up this area now

Well, making the new lower wing, this is how I join them to avoid lumps and weakness

similar on the other side, this way we also get to retain the seam between the lower arch and wing

which allows it all to sit nicely

so final readjustment of the door prior to welding the rear part permanently

and the rear

Well,OS rear corner
started as this under the sealant

so as usual one thing turns into another and its off and out

sorry bout the flash

idea is to make up the missing areas by butt welding to an oe finish point

then the edge of the old tray ready to accept the outer closure

like this


next is this fillet to tie the rest in as will show later

these next few are just trial fits of the other parts


again , keep trying and checking as an error here will only get worse when it comke to lining up the wing etc

im modifying this area a little so

it goes in here instead of the large box that was there

so this can sit there with a little clearance


it also means that the tow bar can be accessed and removed etc

i will add the lower rear panel after the wing is fitted as these can then be tweaked as needed

product applied for now, it will get sealed later

Well,finishing of the bit for the rear wing

trial fit as many times as you must

too late if its wrong

i weld the edges of these panels that form part of the seam , easy with gas and internally a quick run of braze seals it nice and prevents seam cracks

so all welded up and a coat of product



thats the side and rear done and the most involved stuff,soon have the other bits cracked off

Well just about to rattle off the os arch but need a small repair to the jp

genuine B post,sill etc.....

but

this might be a usefull thread as this is what many are like here and im repairing rather than chopping the sills out etc,also in the picky above you can see the rustproofing gooo worked where it reached,also spot the filler at the base of the vertical support

this way you have good access to the areas needed and is the easiest way i think

again ,use the correct gauge of steel for the application this gives same strength as oe and is easier to weld up the variouse layers

i have already made the very small return lip on he lower edge
part welded on this side and fully through on the reverse, holes added for spotting through,the small addition under the vertical brace is important as this carries the weight of the van when jacked and is in the same gauge

most of the inner sill welded, just the front to adjust and weld,


this more for interest and it again shows the spread of rust around the spots and well to the rear...

Useful pics Mike. I am going to open up the same on our syncro and have a go. I have all four corners to tackle, once I have worn out a Sonicrafter getting all the Caravelle putty out of the corners.
