Thanks for looking. I’ve attached another image which hopefully makes it a bit clearer.

The black wire closest to my hand is to the earth, the other black (temporary!) is to the pump.Image

I’ve wired it in as described a few pages previously....

30 & 15 connect to the coil terminal 15
31b connect to terminal 1 on the coil
31 connects to body earth
87 connects to to the fuel pump

You haven't wired it according to the pin view shown on the relay. That tells you everything you need to know. 12v feed to pump comes from one of the two outputs (the other is spare). The pump can be earthed at it's mounting point.
The yellow/blue wire is correct. All others are wrong. Only one ignition live from +ve side of coil is needed, blue wire goes to + pin. Black is ground symbol to earth, and feed to pump from one of the V pins

Yep that looks a little odd.

Let me see
The black wire with completely covered blue spade connector is terminal "V" out to the pump.

The nearest blue wire is supply voltage.

The far blue is the ground.

The yellow / blue is the coil pulse output signal wire.

Am I reading it correctly??

It is so much easier when they label these things properly.

Square Wave (Top Hat) Symbol to coil green wire.

Upside-down tree symbol to ground.

+ symbol to coil 15 terminal black wire.

And the V symbol out to your load.(fuel pump).
(Either V pin will do).

This all assumes that the relay is not faulty...

Pretty sure that's what I said Image
I'm guessing it wasn't too clear, made perfect sense to me. Image

Thanks very much that cured it. Beyond using insulating terminals is there any other safety concerns to address?

Mine is wired to the LPG system too, might have a re-think based on Asjimmo post.   My Mini (1965) had an electric fuel pump (they all did) and back then the pump was just wired off the ignition.

All of the Mini's (998's A series) that I've owned were run on mechanical pumps? 8)

Mine is controlled by the lpg too , and to be honest I don’t see it as an issue as I hardly ever run on petrol
I did consider making the neg for the relay coil go from the oil light so if the oil light comes on the pump stops , but never did .

Mk1 minis, including Cooper and the S types all had SU electric pumps mounted on the rear subframe directly under the tank. Mechanical pumps were introduced later on the mk3 in 1976

Depends on how old it is, originally they had SU electric pumps.

Is the box with a clear cover a double fuse box and if so are both fuses connected in parallel to one another , which would be very wrong.

They do look like they are in parallel.
I would not think that it needs both fuses.
They are very dark... 7.5 amps each perhaps?

They aren’t in parallel and they are 2 amp fuses Image

The original wiring to all the carbs was in a terrible state and strewn over the engine. I replaced it with thicker gauge wire. Hence the fuses...

It should be one fuse but that’s all I had at the time and never got round to changing it.

I feel like I’ve been told off though so I’ll do it soon ImageImage

It was all done on the advice of a mate though so if it’s wrong please let me know?
