the original ones look to be cast but are they iron or aluminium?
would aluminium ones be strong enough?

I think that with the right grade of aluminium they would be strong enough but I'm gonna stick with steel as its a known quantity.

!!Bling!! !!Yet another replica!! Top of http://www.syncro-werkstatt.de/MRB-Fahzeugtechnik.htm. I daren't ask what the price might be. The website just says "New In 2013 there will be a replica of the original spare wheel holder. In the style of MRB - New course left and right in STAINLESS STEEL". Just beautiful craftsmanship from this chap.

What's the thinking with the hinges then Andrew ? Just getting some made to see of its doable or are you making up some missing bits ?

I was looking at the ones made by the lad in Germany and wonder why he added the bit I circled in red. It adds cost and weight and nothing else!

Its doable for sure but its taking for ever as the guy who is doing the job is as slow as feck. Iwant to get full sets of hinges - left and right - and fit them with swivels so you can add your own carrier

Just a quick update on these just in with our Irish house trained engineer after some discusssion we may get these made up in stainless steel (depending on price) and also will incorporate some additional strenghtening to the design and will also allow easier fitting of jerrycans, highlift jacks, waffle boards etc should have some definate costings for these after France watch this space
