i haven't used kbs system but i will say that sealing rust doesn't stop the rust from eating into the metal, after all it's not sealed that side only from the outside where you're applying the metal. i would sand that rust down as much as possible. back to bare metal, it's hard work but worth it and peace of mind. then rust treat because rust is micropourous.

Can anyone point me to a good resource or info about prepping a van?

Silly question but when flatting back between coats - what sort of finish am I expecting to leave (ready for next coat).

Do I need to flattern back so its complelty soomth to the eye and touch e.g. so there is 100% no sign of the "orange peel" effect or just so it feels smooth to the touch and any runs or heavy orange peel feel smooth e.g. no deep lumps n bumps???

i would use 800-1100 and flatten back so both smooth to the eye and touch. remember the paint isn't THAT thick.

I didn't get the thinning spot on, on the first panel and layed it on bit too heavy so have more orange peel than I would have expected normally (am learning as I go along and dont have an old door or fridge to practice on before anyone says it, lol), so had to rub back with 600, and will lay and thin the paint better for the next coat.

I guess I'll just give it a bit more elbow to get it tottally flat then??

Had a quick scan of the thread, but has anyone tried Internation Brightside Boat Paint? I've heard good things about this product?

raker! i have just read about this through some links here and there. it's supposed to be good but i still think i am going to stay with rustoleum.

that's my 10p worth on the matter ..

I've got a feeling it might be easier to apply? Limited colours though!

I've been looking at sandblasting kits, all I can find is the gun and pipe kits. I'm guessing this isn't all you need, do they fit to a standard tyre inflating compressor or do I need something better?

Sand blasting needs A LOT of air... and it makes a right mess... great for localised rust areas/seams etc if you have a half reasonable compressor..(50L+ tank) but dont expect to do more than a few inches at a time....

i'll second that , you need a beast of a compressor to sandblast well

i have a 2.5hp 25ltr and it can sandblast about a 2p size then it runs out of puff lol

i would just run some vactan through the seams and hairdryer them.

secondly, do you know a place that can colour match rustoleum?

thirdly, what's the RAL colour for that standard transporter mid pastel type blue?
