Unlikely it'll react but what it WON'T do is make the Hammerite smooth - it'll just amplify what you've already got. Hammerite is a total pig to sand too. As always you want as flat a surface as possible.

Just bought my first T25,a tintop 1.9 (picking it up Sat morning
) and don't reckon much to the colour of it.
I've bought a 2.5L tin of rustoleum and fancy having a go at spraying it on.Can white spirits be used for thinners when spraying instead of the proper Rustoleum thinners and if so what ratio of thinners to paint is needed?

yeah you can spray it with white spirit , ive also used celly gun wash thinners lol
no ratio , just mix it until its runny like spray paint , spray a bit and ajust until it suits your style

Currently on with paining mine. All flatted and just painted the front and the rear valance today. Christ it's tough work with all the flatting, trim removing and masking. And only 3 more coats after this one

I am after a reasonable match for VW medium blue...
Cant seem to find a stockist near me so havent been able to get a colour chart...

also do you flatten down vactan if you have treated spots/sections with it or just a light scoring of it?

Flatten. Avoid going through it or you'll defeat the object. Whether you fill, treat rust or whatever, a flat smooth finish is 99% of the final paint job - as it would be if you sprayed. You can use vactan as a sort of filler for those minor rust spots but take the paint back enough to treat all those spots properly.

cheers bro, i have been using 300 grade to sand the rust out and wire wool. i guess to flatten with 800 or 1100 paper?
also, i might try and chip a bit of the paint off and get someone to colour match, is it that much more expensive?

For the initial treatment of the rust, and for the 'sealing' of the rust prior to the top coat, has anybody used KBS system? And with what results?
