So badly in fact that it isnt even a Syncro ....

Knobhead seller.
"Hi, Can you provide details of the Syncro 4WD on this vehicle? How many
diff locks does it have? A photo of the dash showing the diff lock knobs
would be useful."
reply
"This is not a synchro it's 1.9 petrol 2wd we weren't sure how to advertise
it as I could only list in parts from my I phone so we used certain key
words to help people find it sorry."

Ok lads its time to fess up it was me who bought the over priced sika! I wasnt going to spend quite that much and originally i was after a panel van but you know what its like when you want something. The van was literally 5 miles away from where i live and after a good chat with the 2nd owner and a drive in the van i was hooked. It's gonna take a bit of work to get it looking good and i'm sure along the way i will be doing the gearbox and coupler but it doesnt need doing yet. I'll also do the engine upgrade one day but as advertised the 1.6td engine is practically new, a complete refit including turbo etc which is probably why it cost hm 3k and runs like a dream.

I hope you all dont mind the many questions i need to ask as this syncro is a bit different to my t25 panel van, all advice will be apreciated.

Happy new year

Cheers

Kevin

Hi Kevin and welcome to the wacky world of Syncros ! Are you planning to do a restoration job on it, or keep it in its nice original 'patina' ? You may want to do a bit of welding here and there anyway, some of the panels are still available from classicparts although $$. I put a few new panels on mine a couple of years ago, but a better more recent pickup resto thread is (this one was much worse than your is) here.

What the load-bed like ? Any rust holes ? If water has been getting through and sitting in the locker thats not so good.

You certainly want to give it a thorough check-over and probably a 'major service', quite a few components will be due for renewal unless the P.O. has already dealt with them..

I've just checked the pics on Ebay, it looks pretty damn tidy ! Load bed and locker are v. nice. If those little scabs in the other pics are all there is it seems really sound.

Cheers mate
The load bed is rust free and the locker underneath is dry as a bone. The old guy who owned it has always had the cover on it so that helped. The rear quarters will need renewing, there is a couple of holes in the arches and the steps are a bit rusty but nothing too drastic. It will be a working van so I will do it bit by bit panel by panel etc. Looking forward to getting the welder out. I'll keep you all posted.

Spending more than you ever wanted to is a Syncro owners way unfortunately. Good to see you started off with the right attitude. Welcome on board and don't forget to join up with the syncronauts.
