one of those jobs your always meaning to do...

headlight brackets... took em apart, wire brushed everything, gave it all a healthy soaking in Vactan and then sprayed em up, look a darn sight better than when I took em off... probably should have taken a picture





they are probably well out of line now mind...

Every once in a while its great to pick up a bargain... and did we ever get one with these seats...



I dont know what they are and were originally fitted to however we got them for 50 quid so as you can imagine I wasn't bothered, the fabric is completely undamaged, the arms work perfectly and the fabric has come up pristine after a session in the washing machine.

So now all that is left is to fabricate some brackets to take the runners... here's the plan...



as you can see the new seat's bases are much narrower then our existing seats so the plan is to weld a new metal square section onto this to attach to the runners, something like this...



the blue dots are where they attach to the existing runners, sadly to remove our old runners from the our old seats will mean destroying the seats as the seat backs are welded to the runner mech, strange I know!

As always the lovely Doug at Dougs VW Werks is doing the welding for me... thanks again Doug

finally found and cut to size the top for the centre unit, we wanted some solid oak and it turned into a real pain the ass trying to find some... safe to say the units are now finished!



made a little chopping board for the sink... Im kinda tempted to get a VW logo routed into this... thinking it might cost a small forune though...



A big thank you to Paul who sent me the correct dash plastic panel to fit my new new floor section, after a little mod in order to take my dials pod, a quick prime and spray in satin black and its all in and tickety boo... thanks again Paul!



For the floor I covered it in some black felt to match the cab carpet, I also had to make a little cut out in order for it to sit around the front table mount, however this was pretty painless...



finally I picked up this neat little bit of trim on ebay last week, I've never seen one before,



it clips onto and hides the metal lip above the sliding door. It was an absolute pig to fit however... copious amounts of washing up liquid required and a constant fight against throwing the darn thing as far as I could

which was maybe why it was on ebay good move not getting the logo routed in, just think of the chopped stuff that will hide in it.

here's (thanks to photoshop) my idea... I'd keep one side flat for chopping on and the top side would have the logo on it... I'm really taken with it... now to find a place that can do it and how much it would cost!

get it to your local uni/art college type place and get it inlaid as well. up our way it would be straight into jacob kramers.foc

final pieces of the Jigsaw...

The only remaining job for us to complete on our restoration list of 'to-dos' were the seats and they are finally done and in... a big thank you (as ever) to Doug Harwood for his welding prowess which enabled us to adapt the bases to fit these beauties... what a find they were (can't take the credit for it this time though as it was Laura who found them on ebay)... £50 guvnor - I nearly snapped his hand off, they were are sight when we picked em up but have cleaned up as near as perfect as you can get.



Sadly the old T4 seats which were in before had to be partly dismantled and used for the bases and as such have had to be scrapped which was a shame, however I did manage to salvage the headrests which have magically re-appeared on the rear seat... waste not want not as the saying goes!



and without the help of photoshop this time I have finished the chopping board, VW logo and all... have to admit being chuffed to nuts with it!





So, the last tasks are to get her over to Arun Autogas on Wednesday to get the LPG system certified with the DVLA & then get the Thatcham Alarm, Immobiliser and Tracker fitted the following week.

Campsites have been booked in April for the first post resto road trip around Cornwall for 10 days which we are soooo looking forward to!

We go 1st of April and are back around the 14th mate so sorry no we will be back home and hard at work again by then

As for the seats we were just lucky I think - they needed some tlc but have come up a treat, there was no way we were gonna pay the ebay asking prices which are just ludicrous so we are well pleased. It's just a shame the old ones werent salvageable
