and i quite fancied having a little tweak!...........this all sounds like blindfolded neuro-surgery would be easier

There's an active topic on Bricky about alternative engine management systems for WBX equipped with Digifant, seems to be coming down in favour of MegaSquirt for best value, lots of initial fuel/ign maps...

Don't know a thing about MS but I am now going to investigate!

Using any mappable ecu will require extra work.. I'd junk the airflow meter, fit a propper TPS and MAP sensor, wide band lambda probe.
then ignition.. for propper mapping i'd junk the dizzy too, need to fit a crank sensor and trigger wheel.. and fit a pair of coils for wasted spark..
Your into 500 quid at least then.. + the mapping.. but thats about as cheap as it can get from wht I have found so far...

Presumably then if you have an exhaust lambda guage and sender as Syncrosimon does then you can set up your own AFR
When I asked tencentlife about this all I was thinking about was using the Lambda guage as a means of adjusting the mixture screw to get the best economy.

Mappable ECUs etc are
way beyond me. Was just looking to see if there is a straightforward way of getting an elderly 2.1 DJ as efficient as possible.
Roll on getting a Scooby 2.5 fiited I say!!

Another tech-heavy conversation in the syncro ranks

Efficient as poss is a well serviced and set up engine and system.. new/refirbed injectors can make a massive difference.. for a small cost...
Mixture screw at idle will do feck all under load conditions, thats why playing with the flow meter is a game and a half...

I dont know what is compatable with WBX for throttle body but have been looking at Audi throttle bodies with TPS for the Gti and cheap as chips on fleabay
Worst scenario is find a friendly machine shop

to make an adaptor to go between inlet fannymold and a suitable throttle body unless you figure a suitable way to put a TPS/pot onto a WBX body

Although very useful, this is all very scentific and real-ale ! I approach it with the attitude that break pads cost less than fuel so I just coast in neutral whenever possible. I've got the prop out too, and it's booked in for an LPG conversion in three weeks.

Well I must say I am surprised at some of the mpg figures people are getting. I was getting about 19 - 20 mpg in the VR6 and should be again now that the exhaust is fixed and everything is how it should be again. Quite pleased really when you consider how much more drivable the van is with the VR6 in it. I know Chiz has been keeping tabs on his mpg of late and is averaging 19mpg. He does have an upturned boat on his though which I am sure affects the mpg at least a little. (before you have a go Chiz I still envy the space you have but my van is still better

)

Thx to Elvis' research (published on the other channel) I am now seriously considering going the "megasquirt" route to sort the 2.6 SA and it's ecu problems. Could work well for anyone wanting to get a cost-effective modern engine management system on their petrol engine, seems to be very popular and well supported...

No worries chap.
As per post on the yard, was quoted £260 for 'building' the box but you can add in as many 'extras' you want for not much cost + £200 for live mapping/fitting. He charges travel time on top of that but he's in london so no biggie i guess if your that way.Chap is 'Toyotec' or similar. PM me if you cnat find him
