prob most popular are 215/75, but may rub on rear of front arch when off road.. 205/70 dont rub.. (as thats what I have on et 31 mercs)
IIRC a 215/70 is available in some makes.. slightly less rolling radius than the 215/75's

Harrymann sent me the following info too

235/75 about widest that will just about scrape on, the seat box corner and rear of front arch can be relieved slightly to help"

Which of these various combinations is the biggest that won't catch or rub in any situation?

Any particular recommendations, or perhaps more importantly tyres to avoid out there? Want an AT tyre even though, if I'm honest, most of the bias should be on road. Don't want anything too aggressive since the noise will try the patience of she who must be obeyed! However I will be on dirt tracks, wet fields, beaches, snow (hopefully!) etc so want something better than a std van tyre.

Yes, a lot of us I think are in the "tyre-decision" phase again this winter..

BFG MTs are considered one of the best compromises, where the compromise is not so much on muddy grip as price (£100+/each)

Kumhos K71 at about £70 are a good tyre it is said, and not too noisy on tarmac, but the sizes imported a bit limited (195/80/15 seems to be the one)
Marshalls are said to be a copy of the Kumhos or even the same, at about £50 each

Mine ar Marshal Powerguard ATs same as Kumhos I was told when I bought them. No probs so far but not used in anger either, mainly tarmac use so far.

What pressure are you running them at, and what max press. is on the sidewall? Thanks

There is another size of 15" tyre that nobody seems to mention and that's 225/70/15. It will fit on a 6 or 7 inch rim without fouling at standard ride height.

This particular tyre is a Continental M&S tyre on a 7" rim which is very quiet on the road and works very well on mud and is very cheap to buy.

This is the tyre I will be using at Syncro25 and I believe it is every bit as good as a BFG A/T off road. The proof of that of course will be on the trial course at Mammutpart.

Couple of tyre places have told me that a 205/70 is too narrow for a 6" wide rim and that they'd only fit 215 minimum. They talking rubbish or just playing it safe (not that playing is safe when it comes to tyres sounds like a bad idea).

Most seem to be recommending the 215/75's. Had a price for General Grabber AT2's for £76 a corner fitted!?!??

The max pressure on my sidewalls is 44psi @800 kg, I'm still experimenting a bit to be honest but 34 front and 37 rear seems to be about right. I based in the generic calculation & some good advice from Si, and then I've been moving up and down a bit to get the best feel.

Theres a lot of good info on here, don't know if you've seen it http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html they suggest a 205/70 to be ok on anything from a 5.5 to a 7 inch rim. My 195/80/15 s are on 6.5 J rims.

I'm still experimenting a bit to be honest but 34 front and 37 rear seems to be about right.

Pretty close to what I run Machos at: 34/36 on the road and down to 18~20 in deep mud and less in slimey leaf mould (12~14)

Cant make the weekend Paul, someone is tempting me out of retirement and I have a meeting all Saturday to sort a few things.

Now I'm going to need get change up from the 14" road tyres. There is a lot of discussion about the 15" Mefros what about the 16" with BFG - any views anyone?

Me... I like 15" rims as there is good tyre selection with few clearance issues but its a personal thing

Looking at a Cooper Discoverer ATR at £69 fitted. Anyone got any experience of them?
