Hi mate,
Shame you didn't get there.
A stuck injector needle or failed injector spring will cause the symptoms.
With the needle stuck off of its seat it will 'Hose'.
The open seat of the injector, causes the diesel to stream out rather than be atomized.
In this state the diesel will not burn effectively and will instead burn off in the exhaust as white smoke.
If the injector is in this state, it is often accompanied by a knock
The hosing fuel goes in faster and takes longer to heat to its Flash point.
When it finally does go BANG, its all to late and at the end of the effective compression cycle.
It exits the cylinder in a partially burnt state and with insufficient heat or oxygen to continue burning
it turns to smoke.
Strong spring pressure would normally hold the injector closed until the pre-set break pressure is exceeded.
Do not attempt to check these in any way.
Atomised fuel will easily pierce the skin, and WILL KILL!

Cheers, the AA guy was saying something about unburnt fuel on top of the cylinder head, so lets hope

Soo... how do i get to the bottom pulley to check it?

Right-ho, thought i'd take the injectors out just to make sure they do come out. 3 of them needed a breaker bar to move, didn't need to hang of it or anything, but using the normal ratchet i was heaving on it so hard it was hard to keep it in the same plain.
So here are the ends of the injector. Which one do you think the AA man pointed out?

Put it all back together, and waiting for the parts now. What do people think of the injectors? hard to tell much from the nozzle i know.

If that carries on i'll have you over 'filming' the repair

so 1 isn't dripping then, you'd just cleaned it with something hence the changed colour and the drip of fluid on it
