Couple of thoughts.
When ordering the UJs with GKN one if the clever chaps there sakes why I was using agricultural joints, I said that's what they had always sold me under their advice.
He did say there was a automotive quality joint available but in the UK they ave never stocked or sold one.
I got the price and then we both agreed that we were probably better off with the agricultural version!
Very very expensive.

Next thought is...
My iltis runs a prop (obviously) as do T4 Syncro, they do differ in the fact they don't use ye olde UJs but the iltis uses a CV joint front and rear and the T4 uses rubber coupling.

One of the things I have in mind for the pile of panel van I have is to make an adapter to go from DIN90 to 6 bolts for a cv joint then to get GKN to make a prop using fast joints ala iltis.

Just a thought but I think the cv joints will be less susceptible to vibrations.

Opinions?

Mentioned the idea of using cv's in another thread think it would be a good idea would be easier to service in the future and also would possibly transmit more power more effectively

I experimented with some bitumen impregnated, self adhesive fabric a few weeks ago. I started (and did not get any further) with a section in the middle of the shaft. I did not notice any difference when driving, but I can't say whether that was due to the relatively lightweight fabric or just having it on one place.

But... the adhesive partially failed during a short drive. A portion of the fabric came loose and was hitting the protective rails. Imagine a playing card in the spokes of a bike wheel amplified 1000 X. Was an incredible noise and vibration from such a (seemingly) small bit of material :)

Wonder what would happen if the prop was filled...or part filled with a liquid...thick or thin....?

From memory I believe my prop is supposed to be filled with gel or something; a Berndt Jaegar option from when the po had the tdi install done. Never investigated it though so could not say either way.

None of those variables changed anything...ever.

Actually they changed lots and lost of things... just not the particular prop vibration you were experiencing (from bad props!)
