I have had many a fun camping trip with my boys, now 13 and 18, I'm a single Mum, we love the outdoors, beaches, shows etc, never a problem, been doing this for 6 years and all have been fantastic
We don't have a TV in the van nor will we ever as this is our chance to get away from all that and enjoy being together, having some fun and meeting up with friends. I wouldn't change it

We've had an event with up to 130 or so single mums and only 14 single dads. Needless to say, the dads have come back time and time and time again

On one event the fire alarm went off in our accommodation and we have 3 fire engines turn up. Funnily enough they came back the next day and the day after too, using some very tenuous excuse about checking hydrants, etc....

Hands up to taking my 4 and 6 year old girls camping as a single Dad. We have just had our first trip in our recently acquired van. They loved it. I have cbeebies shows on a laptop for after dark but generally too busy in the day to bother with it. No internal lights working yet but torches have been a great hit. Aiming to camp out at some point during all my weekends with them. Need tips for sites around Warrington, Chester area. We did Fishpool Farm near Delamere Forest as the first trip, they were great and helped out the newbie and gave the children free sweets therefore gauranteeing a return visit!

There's a nice site in Wrexham, The Plassey. I haven't been there in the van but used to go in the tent a number of years ago. North Wales isn't that far off, you're pretty much spoiled for choice there.

been to the Plassey a fair few times....its not quite the same now as they converted the main..open plan camping field into super duper pitches for statics....halved the size just abouts.

nice place though with the added bonus of a civilised bar with site brewed real ale.

Most who know me have met my youngest son. He's 7 and wouldn't miss trips out as he likes the view and we share responsibility for spotting things and I leave it to him to decide when we should stop somewhere or pull in for a break. I think thats the trick - inclusion. I also fitted him his OWN horn so he can acknowledge other T25s, bugs etc. Once you think along those lines, they're less likely to get bored and it doesn't matter where you go much either.

my 4 year old loves the camper van , although im very much married, i still plan on taking her away by myself. ill be doing the same with sophie my youngest when she is old enough..

hats off to all you single mums and dads who do this .. im sure your kids will have found memorys of it in years to come.

Crikey, loads of replies since I last looked at this. My daughter has grown to love camping with the van and I really enjoy getting away on my own too. Still get some funny looks at some campsites though...

You get much stranger looks when you are as ancient as I am and you are sharing a van with a teenage daughter. You get used to it. Don't worry be happy
