That is a ABL engine code, which is basically a AAZ, but worse.
The AAZ is well known for the bottom pulley coming loose, hence all my conversions having a new pulley and stretch bolt fitted regardless.
This is a TD and not a TDI.

I know exactly what he's on about there, when you have a queue of customer lined up, everyone wanting their van for 5pm and everytime you put the phone down it rings again with people "wanting to pick your brains" doesn't help me or the paying customer.
Forums are for help, telephones are for business.

t was screaming but i narrowed that down to the afm getting too much air ive restricted the air flow and it runs slower
You don't restrict the airflow to anything on a Diesel, they aren't throttled (well, there have been throttled diesels, a few rare hybrids)...
If you've slowed it down by throttling it at all, then again, you're maybe kidding yourself you're getting somewhere
Best get it to someone who really knows what they're doing with these things..
The other alternative is to buy a mechanical pump for it and make it an mTDi
PS. AFM's are very sensitive and easily damaged.

when i say restricted the air flow i should have been more specific. The air filter was bodged in when the conversion was done because the plan was to fit a k&n type filter as it sits in the engine bay better.
i took the airbox off when the turbo came off. when it went back together i left off the airbox. So when i said restricted i mean cover the afm over again.

You used the word 'bodged' on a conversion you paid for........
Your starting to answer your own questions......
Find a garage that has the VagCom software, any garage that can diagnose a VW TDI.......they will help you, may be something really simple, they will probley just reset the ECU to 'factory spec' and see what happens.......chances are it will give them an error code, with this error code they will know where to look for the problem.....Your not gonna get it fixed on the forum....it needs a mechanic, the right software and a bit of head scratchin..........
Going TDIm i(mechanical pump) is an option, but you have paid out to have a fly by wire TDI........so best to stick with it and get the problem sorted......

Sounds like the bloke who fitted it is retarded,.

I was thinking of having my van changed to a TD, should I stay with petrol, after reading all of this??

Why?
TD and TDI are completely different.
But, you generally get what you pay for.
Take this thread as a lesson learnt, you deal with an individual and generally this is what you get, deal with a garage that knows what they are on about and you should get a good conversion.

It is very unfortunate when someone gets left with a mess like this to sort out.All i can say to all of u considering a conversion of any kind.Do ure homework. If a job is cheap then u get a cheap jod.
U are best leaving it alone or going to a recognised T3 specialist. This will cost more than joe plonk but they have to stand by their work or their reputation will be tarnished.
I know this dose not help ure situation but hopefully it can help others in the future.

Bet it didn't chuck out the white smoke, before you restristed the airflow?
