Hi,

Listened to your video, to be clear does it idle okay ish (if a little on the noisy side), stumble when you try and rev it before giving a little pop through the carb as you lift off the throttle? The rattly sound (as far as I can tell through headphones at work!) is tappety.

When loosening your pulley bolt, where did you put your other hand to brace yourself? I did mine, and stood left side against the van, right hand on the big spanner and left hand on top of the air filter box to push against (coz its pretty tight!) Did bad things to the ruber block at the base of the carb in my case!!

I'm wondering if you have inadvertantly pushed against something a bit delicate?

I'm over in Hoole - got a frantic weekend (under the cosh decorating!) but could probably pop over for a second set of eyes early Saturday morning if you like - just send us a PM....

Cheers,

Alex

Hey Alex, thanks for the reply, and indeed the offer! That's awesome. I'm out this weekend unfortunately, but home all next week.

The van idles fine, as you say it IS noisy. As far as I'm aware I've not dislodged or knocked anything.

One other point I noticed is that it gets slightly worse as the engine gets hotter, and presumably the oil thins.

Check the oil level using the dipstick.
Check your coil and ignition amp.

Right then chaps, just as a bit of closure - found out that cylinder 1 has burnt valves, and the tappets on the other cylinders are a bit weak. Carb was set wrong too.

Tappets backed off and adjusted (which I hadn't realised you could do with hydraulic) and carb set up, and she's alive! Might need a top end rebuild at some point as no.1 is still low on compression, but for now I'm a happy lad! Drove through a dark and wet Chester with music on and a grin on my chops!

Thanks for all the advice chaps, much appreciated.
