The relevance is Jed, that VW first made a spare wheel carrier for a T3. Anyone who makes a spare wheel carrier for a T3 is copying VW's idea. Most copies hinge off the C post like the original thereby 'ripping off' VW, most copies are made of tubular steel ... as was the original ... do I need to explain further?

You pointed out carriers made by Nordwest Equipment which look very like Ortecs ... you know, hinged off the C post, made of tubular steel ... not very original!

If you can make a pair, with some improvements (strengthening? other mount ideas? wheel options? single/combi lock etc) I really don't see an issue.

The materials shouldn't break the bank - it's the bending, rose ends and clamp that bump the price up. If you can buy in bulk these wouldn't be so bad.

If you can do them at a sensible price - you'll be onto a winner.

Do something like the original above and offer a ladder too and I will join others in the need to hump your leg vigourously while waving money at you. For me that is a very tidy setup.

Hit the nail on the head in my opinion, I have one one of these designs on the camper, It had been bent too far over and had distorted the frame. It now has a plate to spread the load, fact is there is a lot of leaverage when they are swung back, Otherwise I think OK, I need to get round to putting a chain or someting on to make sure it can't happen.
