Right its time for my go at this! Pleasey cheasy peas can someone tell me what rustolium colour I need to buy for my pastel white van?

Well, its ONE of those - lol. Best bet is see if you can get a rough RAL number from someone in a body shop?

Short answer no. I think you mean off-white. Again, refer to the RAL charts at the bottom the WIKI.

I can put my hand to most things and would love to do an led conversion but need to know all the ins and outs,so please ,please please do a thread on that when you convert your rear light clusters to LEDs

If you E-mail combi colour, they will send you a colour chart in the post.

They will mix to any colour you want, but the paint is more expensive, so most people opt for the standard colours as shown on the
RAL RUST-OLEUM MATHYS colour chart. If you are going to do all the vehicle, then a slight colour change wont matter.

I have just finished mine, it is a close match in colour to the original VW Escorial Green, being a shade lighter outside, you cant notice unless you are picky.

My paint job has cost £50 in paint, and you have to bear that in mind, you will not get a show room finish without a great deal of effort, but then it doesnt cost 2 grand, and you can fix any further rust or damage down the line yourself, so it's about value for money, for me, and the satisfaction of doing it yourself.
I spent 2 days in prep on the front panel alone, the painting takes about 30 minutes. They are big vehicles, and prep is everything, and then practice on an old fridge, or something. Once you get going it is truly amazing to see your vehicle transformed infront of your eyes.

Looking at the chart, the following colours could be suitable.

9001, 9003, 9010, 9016.

Joloke08 - I've put up a short piece on converting number plate lights to LEDs this evening. Hope it fires up a few to give it a go.

You're right Fischer. I ordered what I thought was an Orangey Brown of a RAL chart that was posted out to me and it came through as School Bus yellow! I had to get Combi Color to post out the tint to me so I can dull it down myself...

I've done my first coat on the top half, thanks again Covkid for all your help here. I found that 20% was far too much thinners and the paint just dripped straight off, so I had to thicken it by adding more paint. I am using off-white for the top half, not sure if that makes a difference.

There are a few places where the paint has run after I left it, I also found that the paint still has the rollered effect on the first coat. I'm wondering if cutting back and eventually polishing after the final coat will get rid of this?

I also found that the paint has seeped under my masking tape on a lot of the window seals - I am using B&Q. Is there a good way of getting rid of the paint on the rubbers once I've finished all the painting?

If paint has a bad surface, its too thick. Yes it will flat back fine. Paint from rubbers - drag a stanley blade across it (backwards) or flick it off once dry. Doesn't matter on glass but a pain on rubber.

Thanks Covkid, I think you may be right about the paint being too thick. I will water it down a bit for the next few coats. It does tend to drip a lot though, I guess I'll have the rag ready!

I don't think there is a RAL code for pastel white, I got a good match (by eye) mixing RAL9010 & 1018.
