Hi Cooper
This has been an interesting thread, as others have said I do think you could do with having a good read of the information sites about syncro's - there are quite a few that come up through google.
Chipping in my two pence worth; there is an argument for spending a bit less and then having money to get the bus up to spec. The one in Germany would leave you with no contingency and as it's had a respray you cannot be sure what that is hiding.
I bought a 16" doka unseen off ebay last year knowing it needed a fair bit doing which I had to pay to get done as I simply didn't have the time. Even doing this I shouldn't lose my shirt on it should I need to sell it. As lots of people have said on here before these vehicles are 20 odd years old so have often reached the point of neglect, so even buying a good one you may still get some costs once you start to use it as a daily. These are not cheap things to run I have just spent £200 on the materials for a service and full fluids change.
Ultimately all this needs to be your choice, it's your money. If it were my money I would seriously think about the ones Mickey has shown you the light blue one looks ideal for what you want and if your lucky you could have enough money to stick a better diesel in it
Good luck Steve

Why do you now want a Caravelle? All of your talk has been of having a camper and if you're going to import one you might as well get one that's registered properly so you can simply get it re - reg'd as a Motor Caravan over here. It WILL save you grief in the long run. A multi seat van may well be a PITA for you to insure at your age, so save yourself a lot of hassle and
please have a re-read through all of the kind and helpful info that has already been been directed at you.

Sounds remarkably cheap to me for "a youngster"

I know some folks who are struggling to get quotes on a 7 seater Kombi, care to share who that's with? Agreed value? European cover? Contents? As A Camper or just as a multi seat van?

You do know that Multivans (and to an extent Caravelles) attract a premium because of their higher spec? If your serious about overlanding a syncro, there's scarcely any point about paying for nice seating that will be taken out and windows that will be covered up (and present a security risk).
Please don't spoil a nice 'velle, there's not many left as most have been camperized/ba$t4rdized.
Come to think of it there's not many left full stop!

I'd suggest (again) hanging on for the short time it is now..
Come to the April event..
see some vehicles, even have a drive of a couple or three and see..
We'll happily chat all day about this and that.. And actually being there with the different "flavours" to digest is a lot easier.....

Id love to come to a few meet ups but currently i suffer from panic attacks and anxiety.
One reason why i want a vw is so i can get out more. I want a camper so if i do have a panic attack i can stop relax have a cuppa. I also want it to be a syncro so as i get better i can go away for a bit and have the syncro option. Also i dont want to buy a 2wd and waste my money then have to buy a syncro later.
Also why its quite urgent is my sisters engagement party is in middle march.
And her wedding is in aug 2013 and i want to be able to get to both.
