Some plumbing and wiring to do yet but feeling good about it now.

Cheers to my mate who came round to help shove the big one tonne SWL nodding donkey around and help line things up so it slid in nicely. ooh err mrs.
Yes, still daylight up here, not quite land of the midnight sun but sun has just set. 21:45.
There are two different adjustment types on micrometers, fully unscrew the barrell and adjust under there or there might be two holes where the pin protrudes from the frame, special tool allows you to rotate the inner part, adjustment tools should come with the check piece.

Expect it to rattle and smoke when you start.
WBX log engine smoked for some time before it settled down, probably a bit if rings bedding and a bit of me putting oil in the bores and valve guides during assembly.
If it won't start then it is very often the dizzy where the drive gear was not right before or you put it back different to before.

Cheers for the pointers. Yes, I oiled things liberally so I'm sure it'll smoke.
Good point on the dizzy, i've timed it by eye cos in spite of my best efforts, my dizzy drive is pointing the wrong way. Will need timing with the light once it starts.

I always crank it over with ignition disconnected until the oil light goes out before going for the big start - fill the filter before you fit it too, usual drill I'm sure. You can do an initial check for fuel & other leaks at this point. I don't tighten the earth strap on the battery as it allows for rapid removal if necessary. It'll take a bit of time to burn off all your oily finger marks, no matter how clean you think you've been. I've heard stories of people forgetting to tighten the sump plug too.
Last engine I put in a car was December, I'm still super sensitive and critical going for that first start and imagine all sorts of unwelcome noises....... and then you get happy

And make sure you get the inlet manufold gaskets on the right way they are not symmetrical
I'm assuming you checked pushrids were seated visually

I don't have a bore scope small enough, but as I fitted them I rotated and wiggled them until I felt the rod drop in, the ones that weren't seated properly were obvious and dopped in with a wee wiggle.
All adjusters are showing the same amount of thread and similar to before I removed the rockers so I'm happy they're sitting right.
Ok about the gaskets, the extra gaskets threw me at first until I realised the set covers several engines so there will be spares left over.
Now where does that funny looking nut go???

You can see the pushrods are seated with a torch when the engine is on the bench/stand.
If you can't then you just need glasses.

inlet manifold/carb, most of the plumbing and some wiring done tonight.
No pics cos the midgies came out to play and drove me indoors.
Oil went in and none came out so that's a good start.
Still some plumbing to do when the bits arrive and the wiring needs a tidy up and some bit's replaced.
Some well beaning focker put scotch blocks in there.
