for the sake of 40 quid a side you could just make your life easy by cutting back to good metal and fitting a repair panel made from the vw templates

yes i do mike, but it wasn't obvious from the part of the thread i read and pics i looked at that it is a panel conversion

it was obvious the guy doesn't have much tin bashing experience so i thought i'd offer an easier alternative option for him to consider

i have done a bit of bashing over the years, here's a sample of what i've achieved on my '69 fastback with some sheet steel, a piece of 1" box steel, some wood, a bit of railway sleeper, some clamps and a hammer:

ah fastback , used to have one many moons ago , the pressings give good strength but yep theyre a pain to recreate ,
