Any updates on your situation my friend? I had what sounded like a backfire today, and stalled, then took a while to restart. I'm just heading out now to cross check all suggested to you ijn this thread. I'm guessing either the main fuel filter near tank, or copper filter in carb.

After many hours of messing with the carb I gave up and had the carb stripped by a professional.
However that still didn't resolve it.
So me and my dad went old school and slowly went over everything jets air pipes etc.
Don't really know what we did but it's working fine again. No backfiring etc.
Dad thinks it was the primary jet was blocked as per the explaination earlier on this thread.
Anyway fingers crossed it's all good.

Well after checking everything, I did find something I wasn't expecting, and unrelated to this topic. A fuel line I replaced last year had already started to crack

So I replaced it again. Its the pipe from return plastic filter to the fuel pump.
Also managed to adjust idle which was way too low.
Been for a quick run, and all seems fine, but time will tell. Im guessing either the main filter is blocked, or partly blocked, and, or the mrs put in the wrong fuel when she went to get some petrol when I ran out. My Syncro takes 98 unleaded, and I think she went and filled the can with 95 unleaded
