CB = CHECK!

I did away with the ariel mount as I noticed the 6 sided bolt with the threaded centre the Ariel taps in to was identical to the syncro mirror top mount bolt. So I took out the syncro one and replaced it with the Ariel one. Lot smarter and elegant. Made sure all the earths were good, so not sure I need an extra earth cable.

im sorry to say that wont work! the mast part needs to be insulated from the earth (which is in fact a shield to preven interference....your whole truck is now the arial and that wont work im afraid...all to do with "ground planes" and stuff...have you got an SWR meter? needs to be below 1.5 to work when you key up.

Oh that's a shame. Id like to make it work though. It's so much neater than that 'orrible bit of aluminium.

Can somebody please advise me on this please? I need to know of my rope and shackle combo is safe to use or not.

ninja.turtle007 wrote:I emailed Rope Services about a the rope and shackles they sell.

They responded with this.

Hello Tom,

Thanks for your message hopefully this will help with your query.

The rope itself has a minimum breaking load (MBL) of 11.5 tonne depending on the situation you are using this recovery rope in (on road / off road, sand - mud - bog) it is recommended that the MBL of the rope is reduced by a ratio to a working load limit (WLL) to suit the conditions. Generally in most recovery applications it is normally a rolling load on a flat surface so reducing the rope to a say 2:1 will give a WLL of approx 5.75 tonne and in difficult conditions say off road in rain and mud which would be the worst scenario reducing the MBL by 6:1 which will give a WLL of approx 2 tonne which will cover the weight of most vehicles needing recovered. (large in take of breadth.)
The shackles are always quoted using the WLL and not the MBL so the the shackles we supply are 4.75t WLL and the MBL of them is 4:1 which is aprox 20 tonne.As these shackles take a tremendous amount of snatch loading we always recommend that the WLL is approx double the WLL of the rope assembly.
I hope this information is of help and should you require any further information;please do not hesitate to contact me at any time.You can also find our telephone number and other contact details at www ropeservicesuk com

Kindest regards

Will this work now? I isolated the ariel from the chassis. The only question now is whether the earth is good enough through the mirror to the chassis.
