But! good news on another front, the Ebay seller I contacted has been very helpful and after giving him dimensions and sending a couple of pics he has given me a price to make bespoke racks made to order with removeable J bars on both sides of the hitop of £150 plus postage (he is happy for self pick-up if requested). Given some of the prices I've seen for racks out there (the price of 4 J bars on their own could cost this much!) I thought this was a really good deal and one I shall probably take up. Anyone else interested the link is: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200607793694? ... 1423.l2649" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The chap I sold the other half of my roof bars too fitted his without drilling any hole in his hightop by extending the racks down to rest on the pillar between the windows.
You can just about work it out from this picture

heres a few pics of what I constructed for my kayak. I boght a pair of the Fiamma awning gutter brackets for the T25, and cut off the topmost portion, then welded on a couple of lengths of an old Rhino roof bar (bigger section than a standard car one). Between this bar and the Fiamma bracket I welded a bracing bar. When fitted to the van, the weight is taken in the gutter, and the Fiamma brackets rest against the van side, seems to work fine with my boat (which is not too huge!). I use a strap from midpoint on the boat, over the hitop of the van and to a stainless, small eyebolt fitted in the opposite gutter. This stops any shake when on the main roads....
The Rhino bar has a Mont Blanc kayak rack fitted to it, but you could get away without this bit....?
I use a folding stool to pop the boat up there, as Im not too tall! 8)
