Thanks skippy, its more the other areas around panels i am confused about as they dont have an existing vcl.

I would add them anywhere they are missing if you want to insulate.
My bus doesn't have any existing ones apart from the front doors - assume in my case that's because my bus started life as an empty panel van.
Assume (ex) Caravelles would have them all round as standard..?

I added 'thermawrap' (foil covered bubblewrap) to the inside panels of my Westy a while back.
I started with the front doors. Using carpet adhesive i stuck sheets direct to the door panel. Also giving the well of the door a liberal dosing of waxoyl. replacing the VCL after.
Now being the inquisitive type i decided to have a good look around the rest of the inside panels. All had the loft type insulation, but none had a VCL. Would it be advisable to add one?

As someone mentioned before make sure the VCL is sealed securley, especially on the front doors. I have noticed a good deal of water drips down into this area from the window above. It seems to run down the 1/4 upright and drip down, some down the VCL which in tums collects. I had a small gap which allowed water to come into contact with the door card. Only noticed this after a particularly heavy rain fall and noticed a drip or two coming from below the door card.i resealed the VCL and gave the back of the door card a quick coat of clear varnish just in case.
Is there anyway of stopping/ reducing this leaking?

If your windows are dripping surly this would be between the VLC and the insulation, so negating the VLC? Or is it to stop moisture entering the cab?

I was thinking I should attatch the foil wrap insulation to the panel, leave a gap and then add a plastic membrane either to the vans main frame thus enclosign the areas of to the sides of pillars doign the same thing?

Is this stuff any good?

There seem to be 2 types, 117 for floors and 116 for panel cavities.

Anyone know the current best place to get aluminium foil insulation?

How much are you after? I'll probably have some left over once I'm done.

Enough for the whol van sides, floor and under the driver / passenger footwells. Not sure how much id need actually?

That's always the problem, and probably why I've got some left over.

What I've got is 1.4m wide, not sure how much left on the roll but if you're only using a single layer for the whole van, I'm likely to have enough.

if you measure up, add 10% to be safe, just let me know if you want to work something out.

Hi all

Been a while since I posted.

So I'm going to have a bash at doing the lining in the van, and thought I'd insulate at the same time.

First timer so from what I understand I'll be faced with all the old insulation in there.

I was thinking of buying this stuff from eBay....

Anyone used it before? Is it better than the foil bubble wrap stuff?

After reading this my current plan is.........

1. Remove old stuff

2. Add the new sticky foil layer

3. Reinsert old stuff

4. Add a plastic sheet layer with spray adhesive.

5. Reattach the trim panel.

Is this a sound plan? Any more recommendations?

Im doing the roof too (Devon conversion). So plan was just the sticky foil stuff then on top with the new stretchy roof lining.

Again. Thoughts?

I'll take some pics long the way. Hoping not to find much rust.

I fitted mine loosely and it did help insulate but also cut down noise too - great when you're camped out near someone with a boom box! I should think that stuff goes one better. Yes, take pics!
