the ones from syncro-services are 780 euros each unit !? and they are powder coated and not galvanised.
are the classic parts ones the same as original? and are they 790 each too. or a pair.
does anyone know the part numbers for them please?

did SDP make their own ones or customise standard ones do you think.

and as to if there is demand for them, from what i was reading yesterday certainly in the states, they are the preferred option for fitting 16" wheels with a decent tyre size to a 14.
and we all know that 16" wheels are the best! :D

that is until you have to replace the trailing arms.

why do i always have to have "special needs" cars?

and why do i have so many questions?

Can you not blast, inspect, re-jig (probably lost its datums) and repair the broken one to make it stronger than original ?

..and a known quantity, think I would at least consider that, unless the whole thing is totally shagged.

If not, please could you keep it for me to take a look at sometime? :ok

(wondering whether the offset and camber are in fact exactly the same as 14s, amongst other things)

All from vagcat.com
Personally i would just get burleys replica ones http://burleysmotorsports.com/index.php ... ducts_id=7" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; you get a pair for less than one VW one.
You've certainly made me think about galvanizing mine whilst they are still in good nick though

think mine is going to get a very large patch job temporarily while i think of the best solution.

if i can make some viable ones from standard arms ( like the burley ones but prettier i hope) then i could keep my existing ones for study for the future. so certainly harrymann.

i will be taking measurements anyway off the camper so that i know exactly how they aught to look.

one day, when i have loads of money, i will just buy lovely new ones. damn the cost.

right now, though, budget is my word of the week...
month..
year...

maybe i should try to sell the westy to flynny :(

All the new 16 arms out there come from the same place.
Priced differently from various suppliers due to different profits.
For the burly ones you will need to send him an exchange set.

We have a jig for making swingarms and was going to look at making 16" from 14" original arms the same way vw done originally. If there is enough interest then we can dig out the jig and look into getting some metal cut to make some.

Dai has already done this and is looking at supplying them if anyone is interested might be worth contacting him before peeps go ordering from the states

i definately wont be ordering anything from the states.

my current plan of action ( as the camper is going to be hogging the workshop for a while) is to weld some almighty repair plates to the arms in situ just so i am not worried about the wheels falling off and so i can get back to the woods for some more logging.
i have a standard syncro trailing arm here so i can prep make up the repair panels on the bench so that i just have to weld them on outside on my back.
then as soon as the camper is out, its an a*** end overhaul for the faithfull doka.
that gives me a bit more time to
a) save up for some shiny brand new trailing arms
or b) work out how to make some faithful reproductions from normal ones.
and c) decide whether i can carry on looking after two 16s on my current wage.

i have emailed dai to pick his brains.
