Hi Jim,
nitromors is carp now as most generally available ones thanks to eec etc, all the methylene chloride based ones are no longer legaly for sale as such,
bartoline do one called tx10 which works after a fashion (they supply it to wilkinsons with their own brand on it but if you study the label you will see bartoline hull)
Im fortunate to live within access so get a product that is not on the shelf , has only a number on it,he he and is very controlable which if you look you can see that I can usually peel back layers and then stop, leaving the final removal to the sander,
care nust be taken when no'1s are contemplated
why you got some that are too bad to rub down?

Thanks for the reply. I was just wondering because nitromors just didnt seem to have the stripping effect the stuff you use does.
I didnt know if there was a trade secret.

Yeah it would have been within the last 6 months. I cant remember what i was stripping
But it just didnt seem to want to shift the paint, I was using the stuff in the green tin. Seems to be the mot common stuff and it was just what i had lying around. I used the same stuff about 6 years ago when the misses had a hammerited bug and thast stripped it straight off no problems. I thought maybe with H+S being so strict now they maybe had to take the good chemicals out.

Well spent some time sanding filler off and trying to get to the bottom of what has happened and such,it has had some damage to the nsr wing like maybe caught on a rock or something anyhow the back part of the wing must have been rough as it has been replaces with a cut bit the weld is just visible, nice job though.

the paint to the side of the seam has flaked and no matter how you try you will never feather it out, bad prep among'st other reasons

Both rear corners have been bumped with a good area of filler and it looks like this was one of the earliest repairs and they had both been leaded under the filler.

the ns door is well bad, transpires that it had been run into in germany many years back, filler out and a sorry state

and

the top part had been left to the elements for a period prior to repair well fill more than repair another reason why its worth removing another bodge work, as its nicely rusted

and the damage goes right over the lip that the scraper fastens to so a replacement door is in order as it would be quicker and cheaper than persevering with this.
another result of the collision to the door and arch is that the door was shut when hit and some of the imact movement was transfered to the B post

its not a lot but has caused a very slight swelling to the B post outer skin and also moved it slightly out of line verticaly but an easy enough fix.

No. but its important to know whats happened before and why, same as when I rebuild an engine, putting together is easy its stripping that tells you most of what you need to know, anyhow shouldnt you be on with your mate 'Gunther'

F1 Qually starting so will watch it as its often better than the racing (following round)

Well that was interesting result , anyhow rotten bit chopped out

new piece made and ready for fitting

made a new end bit and thats welded in

quick run over with the grinder

as this van has side planlks then its not seen but still nice to get it something like.
there was lead on the bottom seam along the sill also a few other places on the van, this is the osr 1/4 behind the filler housing

from what I can gather it was done very early on(vw ?) as all subsequent repaints were over it.

Know what you mean - I am the same when I re-build engines, usually astounded by what PO's have done then occassionaly you find a nice straight one and smile!
Just finishing a car (Vauxhall

)for my daughter to learn to drive in, had suffered from lack of oil and the cam and followers were knacked, so did a head strip and refurb whilst I was at it. Should get it finished this morning then can get back to Gunther.
Quali was fun, Hamilton back to his best and nice to see Webber put one over on Seb.
I've quite enjoyed most of the races this year, combi of no one knowing what the Pirellis will do and DRS has meant the racing hasn't been bad (from 2nd place down that is

)

Well time has passed been busy with one thing and another plus holidays... Finally got a very nice door from Germany that had electric windows etc so no need to cut stuff about,
but it needed modding for the big lecky mirrors

tapping out the holes then fitted the mirror to make a new 3rd hole

there is a stiffener behind but this has a gap at the point where the 3rd screw fits so have added a plate to ensure that when tightened it doesnt pull in and deform the door, same goes if you use riv nuts here, they stand proud and dont really do it IMHO.

have used a bolt to hold and pull the nut into place prior to welding

these holes arte from the old truck style mirrors

welded up

then use this

decided to lead it as its quick and permanent and I dont want any chance of filler cracking on this area especially as it has opening 1/4's

quick wizz over with a file and done

thats it done, its got a few minor dings and thats as good as it gets.

Great work.
I know it's impossible to quote without seeing a vehicle, but how much (ballpark) do you charge for this kind of work and attention to detail?
