will re look in the morning, thanks for the pointers, i know that it is not the diff lock light, i asumed that the dizzy feed (for the hall sender) would have been in with the ecu loom? (asumed).

Good engines, perfect replacement for a fupping WBX.
I have another WBX in pieces now, looks much the same as your truck, head seals, deep joy.
To me it looks like you'll gain departure angle if all the WBX engine bars go back.
Crank pulley should be no different to a WBX or Diesel, whatever engine is in there the crank pulley will be directly in line with the crank, therefore gearbox, only thing to change would be the length of the engine, but if you have no silencer then you have gained, less to catch off road.

Note use of the Quantum universal engine stand, they come free with 208l of engine oil.

all the parts turned turned up, just waiting on the on the fuel sender seal from baxter and that was only posted today.
new fuel vents and new non return valves all fitted.


was dreading putting the tank in, but it was not a problem at all just a bit if a fiddle getting it around the drive shafts and the gear box mounts. the straps are a joy to work with, and fitted nicely.


the new spigot bearing and clip. if you look to the left that is the shaft that the auto gearbox input shaft locates too. it protrudes an extra 23mm and was why i could not get the engine and gearbox too mate up properly.

all bolted up nice and tight, just got to work out how to move this lot i dont even want to guess the total weight of this lot. with a bit of luck it will all be bolted back in to the van some time tomorow. then i have to make a few more wiring mods and a small loom, fingers crosse hoping to fire it up by the weekend

Neil hows the conversion going?

time to move the engine and gear box in to its new home. a friend (hairy a55ed plumber came round to give me a lift for an hour between jobs.



the engine crain made life very easy bolted the gear box mounts up first and then worked my way to the vw engine mounting cradle.



then i filled her with oil as i wanted to do a test run on the engine as i have little history of it, set the ingnition timing roughly, conected the stater and placeda jerry can on the load bed and conneted the fuel line to it. removed the plugs, and craned the engine to build the oil pressure (pump it around the engine) then re installed the plugs. it draged the fuel from the jerry can. man it was loud, and the flames from the exhaust ports was inpresive. ran it up for about 20 sec. so at least it is alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

then started adding the water pipes and some other bits and bobs, all moving forward. so i am a happy bunny,

I would be happy too, you've ditched a WBX, things now can only get better for you!

I always liked the rear engine cross member on splitties that you could un-bolt to just draw the engine out backwards, makes life a great deal easier. You could easily weld a piece of large angle to both sides of cut cross member and then bolt a piece of rectangle box across the back. What are the plans for that bit.

the cut out section will go back on. i will have to mod it a little first,i was planning on welding some tabs on it and then welding nuts on the body so that it can bolt on and off, but that will all happen right at the end of the job. a bit peed off as i cant do any thing tomorow as i have to go to hospital, but i recon that i will be able to make the new loom tomorow everning, so with a bit of luck all the loose end should be tied up by the weekend and she will be back on the road and back to work.

excellent stuff Neil, get used to the flames too, with the choke pulled on a cold morning, as soon as you come of the gas ( if youve been over 2500 revs) you get a big old exhaust flame!
the whole set up looks damn tidy.
what was that connector btw?

Now I can see why those mount brackets needed that 10 degree angle looking good mate
