IIRC the French have a clear definition as to what can and can't stay on Aires .... now whether le gendarmerie can be asred to enforce it is another matter.

Couldn't agree more. I wasn't giving a thumbs up for one over another; just pointing out the high tops 'inner beauty'.

To be honest its not something we've really considered. We tend to stay at campsites/munis en route but its definitely worth knowing. Cheers

Everybody's said "somewhere to store the bedding" as being one of the pro-high reasons - it sprang into my mind (not yet having seen a pop-top, let alone owned one) whether it's feasible to use something like a cargo net inside the closed pop-top...?
Thoughts?

with a bit of creativity you can do anything, having used a poptop for seven years or so, that includes spending six weeks in france with 3 kids on more than one occasion fluff and i have now decided to go the fixed top route. fixed top? its closer to the factory hitop dimensions, you cannot sleep up there but it has all the advantages of hitop but a bit lower. check it out on
www.vwcamperroof.com. as for looks/style you kinda get used to it if you know what i mean, i am a funny looking fella and my totty says she loves me . whatever you do enjoy your camping.

I would have thought it should be possible, the net would simply rise with the top when lifted. I did see one fixed to a tintop roof. Its a nice idea.
