Well, it looks like C=upper is the winner... Stick on plate is now ordered. Thanks very much for making my mind up for me.

I went with C, because you off road in a similar way to AL and this would be why.
A or B fine in a WBX

Put it on the driver's side of the bumper so you get the Westfalia, syncro and numberplate all on the same side. Much tidier. You can't visually balance these 3 elements as two are already on one side. Between the grilles looks like an afterthought as it doesn't fit the space available.

I like the idea of c with a sticker rather than full plate
