apology for this one wound out our awnings for the first time today on our drive.What is the correct method for winding out an awning?it seems rather vulnerable when your winding it out to any sudden wind bursts! How resilient are they? thanks!

Wind out a couple of feet, swing down the legs, adjust their length so they take the weight of the awning, put them fowards, keep winding and moving the legs to keep support.
Just how far out is up to you but not too far that the canvas tension goes loose.
When it's windy there must be someone on the front edge just in case.
A tent guy rope on each leg is usually enough to hold it down but I put a wide strap centrally over the canvas as well to be sure (peg each side)
Ask Snozy about snow and Fiamma awnings......definately wind it in unless you get completely caught out like we did with 5 inches of snow and minus 11 degrees C.

You can get tie down strap kits which are handy because they fit in the awning bead slot on the front.

We always wind ours out and in with someone supporting the awning by hand.

Another tip, as mentioned earlier, is to angle one side of the roof down so the rain runs off and doesn't pool.

ive just been looking for tie down straps for my caravanstore awning but all the new ones seem to fit into a c shped groove but my awning hasnt got that just 2 keyhole shaped holes on the legs so any ideas

You can make a strap from a ratchet strap and a bungee.
use two screw in tent pegs
pass the strap over the point where the arms join the legs use the bungee at the ratchet end
