Thing is 99% of the thread came out. The bolt doesnt even do all the way up before the thread comes off of it at the top of the bolt.

there is only 1 rotation of thread left and it's at the outermost end of what was the threaded hole. bugger

still no luck

Is the sump on the JX TD simple to remove, or is it built into the crank case?

need to get this fixed asap and I take it you won't get a helicoil in situ?

better to take it off as the swarf will go into the sump. Yes it comes off there are a number (15?)of hex headed set screws that need to be removed and two large bolts (19mm? holding the sump to the bell housing. there are two or three 'hidden ones at the front end near the bellhousing that are interesating to get off. I used a combination of a solid T Bar hex tool from machine mart and a 3/8 socket to get them off some can be a bit of a bugger to get to.

I also have a belly pan covering it all and no ramps to drive onto. Got a 500 mile round trip to make next week and am worried about the plug falling out on the way. bugger have spent so many hundreds on this vehicle this month!!!

by the way won't the swarf just end up in the oil filter? there is already metal floating around the sump from the threaded hole.

It's your engine, you can see the risks, Oil pump gears might not take kindly to pumping sump lumps there is a strainer before the pump so any really big bits wouldn't get through. My inclination would be towards removing the sump, but yes I expect you could do it in situ if access allows, tap it and timesert then maybe fill with some old engine oil and allow it to flush out the swarf. You might get away with it.

diametre 35mm surely you have to take the sump off for that anyway?

personally I reckon the rubber will just squeeze in there. the 35mm metal plate (assuming it's that bit) will just foul the sump recess, but I think the rubber will block the hole before that happens.

Have ordered one, will see and report back.

so long as there is room inside for that rod that's all I wonder about.

There is plenty of space behind for the rod, just getting the metal disk through is the issue. It should be designed with a hinged flap or something to allow it to pass through. It's a good find if it works.

Sorry, being numb as usual, the disk and rubber stay on the outside, the bit at the top pushes through the hole, doh!

haha I did wonder quite what you meant.

There is still a recess to get it in but I think it'll just go
