yes it can, and used oil is even thinner so even less mixing.

To be honest, my old type 2 will run on SVO without thinning it down (and yes, I am registered as a fuel producer.......did it when I worked at HMRC) so cant see the point of a kit for our old oil burners. It is mainly the modern engines that need the oil heating.

Having said that we have an LT46 comes into our place, 2.8 with common rail motor running SVO, has been for 3 years now with no ill effects and no pre heating


I thought that the real problem is when the temperature plummets in winter the SVO loses its viscosity? I would be interested to know if you have had any starting problems when the temperature drops below freezing. :?:

Reading lots of posts in america where they have been doing this for ages it seems the old diesel will run on any oil, the only suggestion is you use a bosch starter motor to take the extra strain cold starts put on it.
As for fancy ways of putting extra kits on it seems like a quick way of making a buck ot two. As for those robbing veggy green people selling biodiesel at almost same cost as diesel. well I hope their justice comes one day.
As for paying duty the problem there seems to be you have to specify what veg oil your using and all the main stores will not give you a breakdown of their oils as they buy from so many places.
How does anyone pay duty in uk and keep customs informed of WHICH oil their using?

I do.

I buy oil from Booker cash and carry, and they happily supplied a spec sheet for their own brand chef's larder oil.

I am sure it wasn't just because over the years I have spent £1000's with them, as I have heard others who have got the same sheet as me.



If you can prove the spec of the oil you can now get the bio rate for duty

The oil I buy is the same stuff that one of the local Bio diesel producers uses - so I can prove it quite easily - shame they don't use used oil though as they would get my business

I'm Mike and I'm in the market for a T25 to take my family on trips around the country. This is why I am on this forum. One of the first things I will do is get it running on vegoil. I'm amazed to find this thread. Hopefully I'll be able to help a few of you bio curious folks out.

I run a website which is stuffed with all there is to know regarding converting a diesel to run on vegetable oil. The site shows you how to collect used oil and filter it. Where to find suitable parts in the scrap yard or in old combi boilers. How to make a twin-tank kit to reliably run on neat used cooking oil even in the depths of winter.

All of the info is free.

There are a number of complete kits and parts for sale too. These are the best parts available for doing the job properly, including heated diesel filters and aluminium heat exchangers.

this looks very similar to what I use but I have a electric heating element between the filter housing and the exchanger

The poeltech is a good site. Another good source of info is the book "The Edge of Veg" written by a German chap named Stephan Helbig cruises around in a converted T2 (single tank). Him and his friends have many years of experience which he shares in his book....

I have the BioTuning kit in my car and my wife has a smartveg. both work really well all year round!

Who did you do your course with?

I did my course with a guy called Sebastian Rach at the Low Impact Living Initiative (Li LI) see here a crazy bloke who drives an old 80's Mercedes van a bit like one of these

It's all getting a bit clearer now. I have spoken to Sebastian a couple of times. He is good friends with Stephan - we're just one big happy family
;o) The filter design is the same as the one Stephan has in his T2 and it's the only one of this design that I've seen - now I know why you have the same.

Sebastian runs his van on palm oil I believe. Solid at room temp. No duty payable. Just shovel it in and away you go!!
