im having a little problem quite close to this, shifting up is no problem and he goes fine once in gear but changing down is a real pain the a***, cant box change when stopping and messed up a gear change off a round about the other day and forced a cop car to slow down behind me until it managed to slot in, ended up in 4th not 2nd and had to chug along until it picked up pace, i also have a 5speed and i must say i prefer my old 4, at least it didnt catch reverse and grind my box through the back, is there a simple way to solve this, ive been down and checked my linkages theres no bad movement and all seem fairly good, i was hoping a lever repair kit would help a bit as i thought i was just finding the selection hard but shifting up is fine, but since reading this i have noticed that if i pop the lever over to the left slightly before selecting second this seems to work better for me too

Hi, this is exactly whats happening with mine.

Because the piston is already popped in 1st, when u go to 2nd, (where pisten is also needed to be popped) its fine.

Then coming down from 3rd/4th to second, the piston is fully extended (not popped).

U need to get a mechanic to look at the linkages, if its like mine, its that it seems everything seems to far over the left.
