Looks like you welded that panel on the same way Chickenkoop and I did. Conveniently it means you end up with a bit left over as panel designed to go over a pillar too. You can use the extra bit as a shaper/former when you add filler to seam you've welded.

Had a dry day so managed to make another panel up!
When i took the window I was surprised to find what was probs the side of a washing machine or fridge cut to shape and screwed to the back of the rust and gaffer taped in position!!!
3 bits become one, and after few 1000 hammer blows got the step in the panel too!
Cutting the cak off the back of the slide mech cover holder!
New panel sorted just need to weld it in tomorrow (if it's dry like its suposed to be!)

Wish it was gonna stay without filler it will need a scim to bring it in line with the rest of the panel but least i know its smooth under it and not hiding a cak weld!

Let the cutting begin again!
The entire edge will need to be remade!
Looks like another bespoke hand made repair pannel coming up!
How it should look once welded in! (also found rust under the slider runner that will need repairing!)

that is some rust your finding there
Guess they are all like that to some extent behind the shiny exterior . Getting my window rubbers done tomorrow, hopefully won't be finding any presents behind them! No visible bubbling so fingers crossed.
Good work by the way
Do need to get myself on a welding course
