Of course you are right....WD40 lubes for a short time but it is difficult getting anything else in there unless you strip tumblers out.
I remember another solution was to work the key backwards and forwards whilst squirting oil from an oil can on the key...it takes several minutes to get any real amount of lube in the lock though...
You can buy spray grease.....but again, you really need a nozzle so you can open the water trap and squirt deep into the lock.
