I don't no much about syncros but if you wade the one thing that can be over looked is any axle breather's. It pays to put a tube on them so they vent in a dry area. The problem is caused as when you drive into cold water it causes the air in the axels to contract thus sucking in water (oil and water dont mix) this can cause premature wear. :idea:

Mr VW thought of that and as standard front diff and gearbox have piped breathers fitted.
