My van has now had it's winter refurb and new paint. Time to put the chipboard flatpack nightmare back in !! The pics of Fozzie's furniture mods (on page 2 of this thread) seem to have expired, but I'd certainly like a look at them if they are still online somewhere.

If it all goes titsup then I might be making a call to the Timbertechs.

I can post specific pictures if you want - or is it just Fozzies modifications you're after? You really did dismantle yours didn't you .

Yep. A large number of rusted immovable screwheads, totally intransigent broken fridge, bodged floor panel, broken pop rivets later..

I really want to do a reassemble of it all off the van & back into two much more rigid self supporting units that connect back to the van metalwork with the minimum of (secure) fittings. Rubber rivnut/bolts might do the job nicely and provide a teeny bit of shock mounting and flexibility.

Also standarise as much as possible on fitting / fixing screws, in stainless steel. Autohomes seem to have had a 'lucky dip' approach on this, with my van at least.

Any pics of similar, sucessfully realised, Autohomes furniture mod schemes akin to the above very welcome

I removed and reassembled mine in three sections: kitchen unit, cupboard unit and wardrobe (in that order out, reverse order back)







I do still have about 6 or 7 screws left over but that's always the way with DIY isn't it?

Before the 'full out' I had already also removed the tatty wardrobe bits and extended the top surface right into the rear. This gives something to put my stuff on at bedtime (and still has a small storage area under) and also allows the 7' 10" surfboard to fit along the worktop inside the van, pretty much out of the way of the rear seats. Also much more daylight without the wardrobe ! But we then had to extend the curtains.. argh.

I think next winters project might be a custom build out of decent ply.

yes well that picture may have been taken after I'd treated the rust, although to be fair there wasn't much of it.......

so, how much of these pieces came out in 1? or was it a case of take apart in lots of bits then totally re assemble into the 3 sections?

3 descrete sections - once you've disconnected everything and found all the screws holding them together. I try and get it all wikified but suspect it'll take a while - there's 47 photos for a start and I doubt that's feasible....

actually that's wrong; I put them back in in the same order they came out - and with hindsight if I had to take them all out again I'd start at the wardrobe end....

Thanks for this thread - almost got my interior on the exterior - started with the rear cupboard and worked my way forwards - thanks for the tip about the top - saved me hours - although I had to drill some screws out. Now stuck on how to remove the fridge, ahead of getting the final cupboard out.

I will want to rebuild some of the panels - what did you use - Ply or chipboard?
