Just a thought:
Website with members by invitation only? That way you would be able to control who could access / add information about places to stay. I know of a couple of nice quiet places within a few miles of home. Never use them myself, but would be very handy for others visiting the area. Anyone I know is always welcome here at home. There are enough of us to assemble a very nice list of places... and have better control over who knows about them.

People can already request info on sleepyspots via this forum (e.g. gen. chat, campers or members only). If we have a section specially devoted to this, it raises the profile of the locations and more of them will be closed off as they get more popular (credit crunch and all that malarky).

Just a personal opinion.

yes i agree, but we still need to be able to share them with each other dont we?
i know loads in N.Yorks and Derbyshire that i found using only my map and fuel, but to know where to find them for aplanned trip will help loads, if we can be carefull about it

Agreed. :ok Perhaps there could be an announcement posted which advises people which forum to post requests in for sleepyspot info (for specific areas)?

Previous posts containing the word sleepyspot will hopefully be easy to find via the search facility on here.

T'is a good term, does exactly what it says on the tin! 8)

I tried the search facility as an experiment. Unfortunately some people type sleepy spot rather than sleepyspot, which means that using sleepy as the search term produces a bigger number of relevant posts.

other forums, VZi for example have a subforum where you have to have a certain number of posts, and seek permission from a moderator to get in
that would solve the problem, i doubt visitors would sign up and post say 100 posts just to see where they might be able to free camp
there used to be an orsum camping spot in suffolk, aldeburgh, that got too popular, some numbhead was allegidly seen emtying his chemical toilet into the sea, and that got knocked on the head

a sub forum with a post count requirement and permission from a mod, is IMHO a sensible way to go about it

the one's I posted are GPS coordinates, i have no idea what post codes would be, or how to find them
I looked them up on google earth, satnav's these day can direct you to a GPS position, I also save a GS location, if I think it might make a decent campsite, just so's i can find it again
since google eath came out, it's made life easier
