if you didn't connect it to anything it would switch on and off as the temp rose and fell past the set temp
That is why they were suggested and are more suited to the task in hand.

Sunvic is the name of it
like this one

Maybe your wiring is in better nick and isn't suffering voltage drop? Even so your thermostat is running outside of it's design range - successfully.(more by luck than judgement?) :)

Are the Propex thermostats amount of heat controls as well as thermostats?
The Webasto thermostat also increases the pump rate as it is turned up ( it is not graduated with degrees on the dial ), is the Propex the same?

it's just a room thermostat, the propex does not depend on pumps.
Propex heats a room, until the bi metal strip bends enough to break the power supply.
If you took the time to look at the spec of the propex and sunvic they are almost identical i.e. 24v. DC

so no luck, just sought advice from heating engineers and countless others on here who have done exactly the same adaptation. Which is money saving.

I am not sure what that little component does Dr foster, I shall endeavour to find out for you.

I know that - what I meant was does it control the amount of heat output by controlling the amount of fuel.
All the specs. of the various Propex heaters that I can find state that they are 12 volt or 24 volt models not 12 volt /24 volt combined models.
I'm all for using something else when the oem item is far overpriced compared to what can be obtained elsewhere :)( I run a 24 volt Webasto from 12 volts using a Maplin 140W laptop dc/dc convertor)
