Just a standard question you should ask....If it did snap and question wasn't asked, then you know who would be paying for the repairs. Just to cover the garage's backside. We even get customers to sign a job card saying they have been asked the question and agree for us to do the test.

Visual test is stuff before around 1974 for petrol (not quite the same as historic tax!) and pre aug79 for diesels. Basicly blue is bad but black its fine if its not completely opaque, depends on the testers opinion. If its pre 1960 you can pritty much get away with anything as the MOT handbook states smoke from such designs might be unavoidable

My point is why ask on a t25 there is no interval
Getting customers go sign things means nothing, VOSA are against such things.

Like I said just a standard question the reception staff ask when booking a diesel in for test, they don't know when or if the belt wants changing on a T25 anymore than they do on a ford escort.

Thanks guys, started this morning and lost the back in smoke, so removed the air filter,put more BP low sulphour diesel in it drove to the test centre in the snow reving as high as I could, they put the reader up the tailpipe while it was still hot first reading the guy saye's yes good enough, they adjusted my headlamps charged me £10 for the retest and I now have a years ticket

So are we saying it was the air-filter?

I think the air filter was the biggest cause but I think the injector cleaner and low sulphur fuel helped, and the tip of revving in 2nd and stopping cleared a lot of smoke on the way to the test . I goes like a rocket now I am going up hills I used to struggle on with ease. Possibly the fact that when I turned up for the retest they took it straight in still hot and did the emission test first might have helped?

OK so how do your reception staff know its belt driven, alot are chain and some a gear driven.

They don't that is why they are reception staff
